It appears that the rain is what\u2019s keeping houses everywhere sealed shut.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It also becomes clear that there are spooky creatures that arrive whenever the rain falls. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, who are the creatures? They come from the ocean, not from space. They are not aliens as they have been on Earth longer than humans have been here. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Director <strong>Louis Leterrier<\/strong> told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.netflix.com\/tudum\/articles\/the-last-house-ending-explained\">Netflix Tudum<\/a>, \u201cThey\u2019ve been there way before us. What if these things aren\u2019t from outer space? What if these tales of sea creatures are real? What if that\u2019s why they can control the rain? They\u2019re not conquering our world. Jason, the dad, figures out a way to go \u201cfishing\u201d through their chimney thanks to cracks in the house\u2019s foundation. Using traps he engineers with household items, Jason figures out a way to hunt for animals, finally finding a way to feed his family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\u2019s then a flash forward to five years in the future and the family is still going strong in their house. They\u2019ve figured out how to grow crops inside the house, helping them sustain their food supply. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Near the end of the film, the family decides that they need to find a way out of the house as they\u2019re not living an enjoyable life inside anymore. After a huge struggle, leading to their house flooding from the rainwater, they have the creature tied up. Jason holds a knife to the creature and demands that it open the door to let them outside. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this moment, Jason thinks back to what his daughter Ruth said about there being nice creatures and that this is likely their world. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jason decides to show mercy to the creature and lets it go. The creature escapes the home and leaves the door open for the family to finally leave the house too. When they go outside, they are surrounded by other creatures, but the creature they spared tells the other ones to leave them alone. The creatures escape to the sea and never return. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The movie ends with the family seeing that their city is now under water.
