A zany comedy?\u2019 No. \u2018Madcap,\u2019\u201d the actress said. \u201cHe would basically be like, \u2018This is a madcap comedy.\u2019 Then the next day, he\u2019d be like, \u2018It\u2019s a horror story.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tShe added, \u201cHaving seen it, I\u2019m like, \u2018Yeah, it\u2019s all of it.\u2019 But, to be clear, I don\u2019t think it suffers at all from a lack of tone or confusion of tone. I think, in reality, it kind of is all of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIn June, Amazon MGM Studios announced it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/luca-guadagnino-sam-altman-artificial-dropped-amazon-openai-1236626073\/\">dropping the feature<\/a> just months after Amazon entered into a $50 billion investment with OpenAI. Neon later landed the film.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBarbaro also discussed Simon Rich\u2019s script, which was inspired by real events.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cWe were dealing with really challenging material in terms of what we\u2019re saying about people who are alive,\u201d she said. \u201cI feel like this had a particular kind of flavor to it, as far as his films are concerned, because it\u2019s based on real events. I think it\u2019s probably different from the way he might usually work, or our task was so heavily research-based.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tLast month, Garfield <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/andrew-garfield-drama-openai-film-artificial-1236659418\/\">shared his reaction to<\/a> the film\u2019s move to Neon with <em>The Hollywood Reporter:<\/em> \u201cI\u2019m really grateful to Amazon for making the film with us, and I\u2019m also really grateful to Amazon for helping it find a new home,\u201d he said. \u201cI think Neon\u2019s a really, really exciting home for it. I think it\u2019s a really good fit and I\u2019m really excited to release it with them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tElsewhere in her <em>Happy Sad Confused<\/em> interview, Barbaro addressed comments made earlier this year by her <em>A Complete Unknown<\/em> co-star Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet, when he was asked whether audiences still have an interest in slower-paced movies. In his response, he said he wouldn\u2019t want to be involved in an art form that \u201cno one cares about,\u201d citing ballet and opera as examples.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t want to be working in ballet or opera where it\u2019s like, \u2018Hey! Keep this thing alive, even though no one cares about this anymore,\u2019\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/lists\/timothee-chalamet-loses-best-actor-kylie-jenner-oscars-2026\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/lists\/timothee-chalamet-loses-best-actor-kylie-jenner-oscars-2026\/\">Chalamet said at the time<\/a>. \u201cAll respect to the ballet and opera people out there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cYou\u2019re the first person to ask me about this,\u201d Barbaro said in response to Horowitz. \u201cI can\u2019t possibly know exactly where he was coming from when he said that, but one of the conversations we had on set was about his sister being a dancer, and he was actually saying it from a very hats-off, respect, kind of place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBarbaro said she interpreted Chalamet\u2019s comments as being more about declining audiences for ballet and opera than a lack of respect for the art forms themselves.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI feel like that was something where he was expressing something in a way that made it sound like it was about respect for the art form, when really I think it is about audiences for that art form. And I do think audiences are dwindling for those kinds of art forms,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tBarbaro herself comes from a dance background, having trained in ballet before pursuing acting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t know that that\u2019s what he was saying, but that\u2019s my personal takeaway. I\u2019m a Gemini. I try to see all sides.
