Michael Crichton\u2019s original <em>Westworld<\/em> film is a glorified B-movie \u2014 a cat-and-mouse thriller about a cybernetic gunslinger relentlessly pursuing a mild-mannered tourist through a series of futuristic, robot-infested theme parks \u2014 but Nolan and Joy took that basic premise and turned it into a deeply thought-provoking, philosophical study of sentient artificial intelligence and the dangers of creating technologies beyond our control.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/westworld-season-5-jonathan-nolan-hopes-ending\/\" target=\"_blank\">After <em>Westworld<\/em> ended<\/a>, Nolan and Joy made the leap to Prime Video and did it all over again. They took a hammy sci-fi property \u2014 this time, the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/db\/tv-show\/fallout\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Fallout<\/strong><\/a><\/em> video game franchise \u2014 and turned it into something much grander and smarter than its source material. The <em>Fallout<\/em> games are a lot of fun, but they\u2019re more interested in replicating the <em>Mad Max<\/em> aesthetic and giving their players a variety of mutants to kill than making any kind of logical sense.<\/p>\n<p>Nolan and Joy took that aesthetic, and that narrative groundwork, and used it as a springboard to create one of <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/best-post-apocalyptic-shows-past-decade\/\" target=\"_blank\">the greatest post-apocalyptic TV shows of the past decade<\/a>. Amazon\u2019s <em>Fallout<\/em> show is just as visually stunning as <em>The Last of Us<\/em>, just as darkly hilarious as <em>The Boys<\/em>, and just as haunting and dystopian as <em>Yellowjackets<\/em>. It\u2019s one of the best shows on the air right now. He wrote the short story that <em>Memento<\/em> was based on, and went on to co-write the screenplays for <em>The Prestige<\/em>, <em>The Dark Knight<\/em>, <em>The Dark Knight Rises<\/em>, and <em>Interstellar<\/em>. The Nolan oeuvre would look very different without his brother\u2019s contributions, and when Jonathan signed on to adapt <em>Fallout<\/em>, Christopher returned the favor.<\/p>\n<p>It was no easy feat to <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/fallout-season-3-prime-video-changing-genre-western\/\" target=\"_blank\">turn the <em>Fallout<\/em> games into a TV series<\/a>. Whereas <em>The Last of Us<\/em> has a single, linear narrative that HBO could adapt, the <em>Fallout<\/em> games tell a different story for every player. There are a dozen <em>Fallout<\/em> games, but they all revolve around a mute, nameless character. The story is determined by the player\u2019s own actions and choices, so there was no real source material for Nolan and Joy to work from. All they had was the worldbuilding \u2014 the nuclear apocalypse, the post-apocalyptic factions, the anti-corporate satire \u2014 so they brought that world to life. Instead of trying to tell one single, linear <em>Fallout<\/em> story, they told a bunch of different <em>Fallout<\/em> stories about a bunch of different characters across a bunch of different factions.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/timlammers\/2024\/04\/13\/fallout-how-jonathan-nolan-consulted-christopher-nolan-on-the-series\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Forbes<\/a><\/em> to promote <em>Fallout<\/em>\u2019s release, Jonathan Nolan explained that he turned to his brother for advice and creative input when he was working on the series. He said that \u201c<em>a gut check<\/em>\u201d from his brother is a crucial part of his writing process. But when Nolan was hired to work on <em>Fallout<\/em>, he was personally selected by Todd Howard, the director and executive producer of <em>Fallout<\/em> studio Bethesda.<\/p>\n<p>As the <em>Fallout<\/em> series first went into development, Howard was working on <em>Starfield<\/em>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/interstellar-movie-harsh-realities-rewatch\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Interstellar<\/em> was a major touchstone<\/a> in the game\u2019s development. <em>Interstellar<\/em> was Howard\u2019s North Star as he set out to tell his own spacefaring tale. So, he was really eager to get that film\u2019s co-writer involved in the <em>Fallout<\/em> show. Howard expressly told the powers that be to only meet with other creators and showrunners after Jonah Nolan had made it crystal clear that he would never, ever have anything to do with it (via <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slashfilm.com\/1457079\/christopher-nolan-movie-ensured-fallout-tv-series-got-made\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">\/Film<\/a><\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately for Howard, Nolan was interested enough in the property to meet with him, and excited enough by that meeting to commit to the series. But that\u2019s just the tip of the iceberg; Amazon has already renewed the show for a third season, which began filming on July 7 in Los Angeles. In the streaming age, we\u2019re seeing shows take longer and longer breaks between seasons \u2014 sometimes up to three or four years just to churn out, like, eight episodes \u2014 but <em>Fallout<\/em> managed to get its second season out in less than two years, and season 3 is aiming to make that gap even narrower.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/fallout-prime-video-perfect-cast-getting-better\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Fallout<\/em> has added some exciting new actors<\/a> to its recurring cast for the third season: Aaron Paul, Manny Jacinto, Emily Mortimer, and Thomasin McKenzie \u2014 an already-stacked cast is about to get even more stacked. Frederick E. O. Toye, who directed episodes of seasons 1 and 2 and previously worked on <em>Westworld<\/em>, has been tapped to direct some episodes of season 3.<\/p>\n<p>We don\u2019t have a firm release date for <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/fallout-season-3-explained\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Fallout<\/em> season 3<\/a>, but we can probably expect to see it sometime in 2027. <em>Fallout<\/em>\u2019s season 2 finale teased some exciting storylines for the third season. Lucy has been reunited with Maximus, <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/fallout-season-3-ghoul-mad-max-road-warrior-wasteland-future\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Ghoul is off to find his family in Colorado<\/a>, Dane has brought Quintus the Liberty Prime blueprints, and the Legion is marching into New Vegas. There are a lot of threads for <em>Fallout<\/em> to pick up when it returns for season 3. The Liberty Prime tease, in particular, seems to suggest that the third season will borrow heavily from <em>Fallout 3<\/em>, after <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/fallout-robert-house-character-game-history-season-2-explained\/\" target=\"_blank\">season 2 leaned on <em>Fallout: New Vegas<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s entirely possible that Amazon is planning to turn <em><strong>Fallout<\/strong><\/em> into another sprawling cinematic universe with a slew of sequels and spinoffs. They\u2019ve already done that with <em>Bosch<\/em>, <em>Reacher<\/em>, and <em>The Boys<\/em>, so it stands to reason they\u2019d want Walton Goggins to do a Ghoul series or
