But then, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/stassi-schroeder\/\" id=\"auto-tag_stassi-schroeder_1\" data-tag=\"stassi-schroeder\">Stassi Schroeder<\/a> called.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tLongtime friends who starred alongside one another throughout the golden years of the Emmy-nominated Bravo series, Schroeder invited Maloney to appear on her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/watch-house-of-stassi-season-1-free-stream-stassi-schroeder-show-1236659410\/\">new Hulu series<\/a> <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/house-of-stassi\/\" id=\"auto-tag_house-of-stassi_1\" data-tag=\"house-of-stassi\">House of Stassi<\/a><\/em> after the core cast had been assembled.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tIt\u2019s a topic discussed on the new series, which dropped on the streamer on July 29. During their first onscreen sit-down, a first meeting after a fallout a few years back, at the Belmont (an obvious <em>Vanderpump Rules<\/em> callback), Maloney gives it to Schroeder straight.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cYou just make your world smaller and smaller and smaller to the point where it\u2019s like if, I don\u2019t know, they didn\u2019t come out of you or they\u2019re not married to you or they\u2019re not on your fucking payroll, they don\u2019t get to be in your life,\u201d Maloney told her friend, cut to a scene of Schroeder, who is an executive producer, uttering, \u201cDamn, this bitch is good. And that\u2019s the type of truth-telling we need on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/reality-tv\/\" id=\"auto-tag_reality-tv_1\" data-tag=\"reality-tv\">reality TV<\/a>. I need her to do this show.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMaloney tells <em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> that she wouldn\u2019t have signed up for another reality TV show if it weren\u2019t for \u201cthe people that are involved.\u201d She adds, \u201cKnowing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/house-of-stassi-schroeder-reaction-marriage-vr-season-2-1236665509\/\">Stassi\u2019s history with reality TV<\/a> and her perspective on it, how she wanted to navigate doing the show was something that I really aligned with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cEspecially coming off of a show like <em>Vanderpump Rules<\/em>, which was very successful for a long time, but really did kind of, at the end, take a toll on me,\u201d Maloney says, continuing, \u201cI just knew that if I was going to return, it would have to be for something that felt very different, and that absolutely was the case. I just really trusted the producers and the whole production team, and it just was exciting.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content-image \/\/  \">\n<figure class=\"o-figure   size-large alignnone lrv-u-max-width-100p\" style=\"width:3000px\">\n<div class=\"c-lazy-image  \">\n<div class=\"lrv-a-crop-16x9\" style=\"padding-bottom:calc((1688\/3000)*100%);\">\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/wp-content\/themes\/vip\/pmc-hollywoodreporter-2021\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/182546_101_0001.jpg?w=3000\" alt=\"\" data-lazy-srcset=\"\" data-lazy-sizes=\"\" height=\"1688\" width=\"3000\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div><figcaption class=\"c-figcaption  lrv-u-padding-tb-025\">\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"a-font-secondary-s lrv-u-margin-r-025\">Katie Maloney sits down with Stassi Schroeder on <em>House of Stassi.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<cite class=\"a-font-accent-uppercase-xs lrv-u-color-grey-dark\">Disney<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMaloney knew the series was in the works (it was first <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/stassi-schroeder-lisa-vanderpump-hulu-1235968726\/\">announced<\/a> in August 2024, three months before Bravo revealed it was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/vanderpump-rules-new-cast-refresh-bravo-season-12-1236071713\/\">rebooting<\/a> <em>Vanderpump Rules<\/em>), but \u201cnever considered [joining the cast] to be an option for a number of reasons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI didn\u2019t know where they were in the process,\u201d Maloney explains, adding that she quickly learned they hadn\u2019t started shooting for <em>House of Stassi<\/em>, and things fell into place.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI don\u2019t know. There was just something that, maybe just innately in my gut, told me like, <em>this is the time<\/em>,\u201d she says.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tA seasoned reality star, Maloney was \u201ccautious\u201d about joining a new show and the cycle that emerges while starring on an active series. \u201cThat\u2019s a lot of what I\u2019ve been enjoying away from reality TV, out of the public eye and constant attention,\u201d she says, \u201cbut at the same time, I\u2019m pretty used to this, so I have a pretty good handle on it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tShe also admits she wasn\u2019t eager to jump at other reality TV experiences after <em>Vanderpump Rules<\/em> ended. \u201cObviously, the same production team that worked on <em>Vanderpump Rules<\/em> worked on <em>The Valley<\/em>, and I, just through casual conversations, have made it clear that that was not something I\u2019d ever be interested in. But I didn\u2019t really have the interest for a while in participating in reality TV.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMaloney worked with Bravo for over a decade; she was one of three <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/lists\/vanderpump-rules-cast-original-where-are-they-now\/\">original<\/a> cast members to remain on <em>Vanderpump Rules<\/em> for its 11-season tenure before the network rebooted the show. <em>House of Stassi<\/em> ushers her onto a new network on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/hulu\/\" id=\"auto-tag_hulu_1\" data-tag=\"hulu\">Hulu<\/a> and Freeform, which Disney backs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019m trying to not compare it constantly,\u201d Maloney says when asked about the differences in starring on a new network. \u201cIt\u2019s hard because, like with anything, that\u2019s sort of my only frame of reference. But I\u2019m trying to just treat it like it\u2019s something entirely new that I\u2019ve never been a part of.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMaloney did bring one part of her <em>Vanderpump<\/em> past over to <em>House of Stassi<\/em>: an Ariana Madix cameo. \u201cShe without hesitation agreed to do it,\u201d Maloney says, explaining that she told Madix she wanted to film at their West Hollywood sandwich shop <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/lifestyle\/lifestyle-news\/vanderpump-rules-something-about-her-ariana-madix-katie-maloney-1235907302\/\">Something About Her<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI was never going to press [Ariana] or ask her to be part of it beyond that, but I was just happy that she was so supportive,\u201d she says. \u201cAlso, we worked so hard to get our sandwich shop open, so it was important that for the first time us filming there, that she was there for that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tOn the new series, some <em>House of Stassi<\/em> castmembers raised their quarrels with Maloney joining their cast. She admits she did not know people like Kristina Kelly and Taylor Strecker had such strong hesitations about her being back around their friend group.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cNot prior to going into it. Obviously, I found out quickly that some people had issues,\u201d she says. One comment she was not given a heads up about before the show dropped came from Schroeder\u2019s husband Beau Clark, who said he hoped Schroeder reconnecting with Maloney wouldn\u2019t shift his wife\u2019s behavior.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cThe only [comment] I had no idea that was said was Beau\u2019s reaction. And obviously Stassi and I having our friendship break that we had, that\u2019s his wife, he\u2019s gonna have her back, but he was pretty passionate in his feelings about me,\u201d Maloney says. \u201cThat one stung a little bit too because I\u2019ve always loved Beau and really gotten along with him, so kind of sucked to hear.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-content-image \/\/  \">\n<figure class=\"o-figure   size-large alignnone lrv-u-max-width-100p\" style=\"width:2000px\">\n<div class=\"c-lazy-image  \">\n<div class=\"lrv-a-crop-16x9\" style=\"padding-bottom:calc((3000\/2000)*100%);\">\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"c-lazy-image__img lrv-u-background-color-grey-lightest lrv-u-width-100p lrv-u-display-block lrv-u-height-auto\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/wp-content\/themes\/vip\/pmc-hollywoodreporter-2021\/assets\/public\/lazyload-fallback.gif\" data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/183023_0034.jpg?w=2000\" alt=\"\" data-lazy-srcset=\"\" data-lazy-sizes=\"\" height=\"3000\" width=\"2000\" decoding=\"async\"\/><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div><figcaption class=\"c-figcaption  lrv-u-padding-tb-025\">\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<span class=\"a-font-secondary-s lrv-u-margin-r-025\">Stassi Schroeder, Kristina Kelly and Katie Maloney celebrate the premiere of <em>House of Stassi.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<cite class=\"a-font-accent-uppercase-xs lrv-u-color-grey-dark\">Disney\/Arthur Gareev<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tA <em>House of Stassi<\/em> moment of Maloney\u2019s that stuck out was a confessional interview before the season\u2019s disastrous Queen Mary finale dinner party, where Schroeder and Clark\u2019s friends and family brought up concerns about their marriage. \u201cI know how common affairs are and how they happen, and I\u2019ve experienced the beginning stages of it,\u201d she said\u00a0on the show, sharing her experience of emotional abandonment in her marriage and how she found connection outside of that relationship. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tSome viewers thought Maloney was speaking about Tom Schwartz\u2019s infidelities in their former marriage, but Maloney confirms she \u201cwas talking about myself,\u201d and that \u201cnot that many people have caught onto\u201d her admission in the finale episode.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI\u2019ve seen it happen over and over too in people\u2019s lives that I know. If you stop and think about it, five times out of five times, when someone ends their marriage or long-term relationship, the common thing that\u2019s said at the end is, \u2018I felt like we were roommates,\u2019\u201d she says. \u201cAnd that\u2019s when you feel emotional abandonment, and that\u2019s when, and I\u2019m speaking from my perspective on things and other people\u2019s perspectives, but I think that it\u2019s so common.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIt wasn\u2019t necessarily like a singular person or anything,\u201d Maloney adds. \u201cI just was aware so clearly of where I stood emotionally within my marriage and relationship, and some people choose to explore that well out without exiting the relationship armors, because that\u2019s a more difficult thing to do. I recognized that that was my time.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMoving forward with a potential second season of <em>House of Stassi<\/em>, Maloney says she\u2019d be on board: \u201cI think that would be a lot of fun.
