If that projection holds, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/spider-man-brand-new-day\/\" id=\"auto-tag_spider-man-brand-new-day_1\" data-tag=\"spider-man-brand-new-day\">Spider-Man: Brand New Day<\/a><\/em> will nab the third-best domestic second weekend ever. The studio is estimating that the film will bring its North American total to $653 million by Sunday, giving it the highest 10-day domestic sum in box office history. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<em>Star Wars: The Force Awakens<\/em> holds the record for the best domestic second weekend after collecting $149.2 million in 2015. <em>Avengers: Endgame<\/em> looks to remain at No. 2 with its follow-up frame of $147.3 million after opening in April 2019. The last Spidey feature to hit the big screen was <em>Spider-Man: No Way Home<\/em>, which previously held Sony\u2019s record for top second weekend with $84.5 million in December 2021, although that film had very little theatrical competition coming out of COVID.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<em>Spider-Man: Brand New Day<\/em> has soared with its record-setting launch, having landed the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/spider-man-brand-new-day-box-office-biggest-first-week-1236668259\/\">highest-grossing first week<\/a> in domestic box office history. The film surpassed $500 million in North America in its first seven days, becoming the fastest title to reach that half-billion milestone by supplanting\u00a0<em>Endgame<\/em>, which hit the threshold in eight days.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<em>Brand New Day<\/em> scored the best-ever domestic box office sums <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/spider-man-brand-new-day-box-office-biggest-tuesday-1236665110\/\">for a Monday and a Tuesday<\/a> on its way to becoming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/spider-man-brand-new-day-billion-global-box-office-1236663765\/\">the second-fastest feature<\/a> to cross the billion-dollar mark globally after reaching the threshold in six days, bested only by <em>Endgame<\/em>. This surpassed\u00a0<em>Endgame\u2019<\/em>s $357.1 million domestic start, although the latter\u2019s $1.2 billion global launch still held the record for its worldwide opening weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/sadie-sink\/\" id=\"auto-tag_sadie-sink_1\" data-tag=\"sadie-sink\">Sadie Sink<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/jon-bernthal-the-odyssey-spider-man-marvel-1236648432\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/jon-bernthal-the-odyssey-spider-man-marvel-1236648432\/\">Jon Bernthal<\/a> and Mark Ruffalo also star in the story of Marvel\u2019s signature hero as he faces a lonely existence before an invisible enemy targets him. Hailing from producers Marvel Studios and Amy Pascal, <em>Brand New Day<\/em> carries a $225 million production budget.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tHolding onto <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/alex-theatre-the-odyssey-70mm-box-office-1236664347\/\">second place at the box office<\/a> in its fourth weekend is Universal\u2019s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/the-odyssey\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-odyssey_1\" data-tag=\"the-odyssey\">The Odyssey<\/a><\/em> with around $30.5 million to bring its domestic cume to $460.1 million. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/lists\/the-odyssey-cast-characters-christopher-nolan\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/lists\/the-odyssey-cast-characters-christopher-nolan\/\">Christopher Nolan\u2019s mythological epic<\/a> crossed the billion-dollar global mark Thursday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/christopher-nolan-on-the-odyssey-horror-dog-1236652434\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/christopher-nolan-on-the-odyssey-horror-dog-1236652434\/\">becoming the director\u2019s<\/a> third film to accomplish the feat after <em>The Dark Knight<\/em> and <em>The Dark Knight Rises<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tUniversal also has the weekend\u2019s No. 3 title with the romantic comedy <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/one-night-only\/\" id=\"auto-tag_one-night-only_1\" data-tag=\"one-night-only\">One Night Only<\/a><\/em>, which is expected to notch $6 million in its opening weekend from 3,012 North American screens. Earning a B+ CinemaScore from audiences, the movie stars <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/monica-barbaro\/\" id=\"auto-tag_monica-barbaro_1\" data-tag=\"monica-barbaro\">Monica Barbaro<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/callum-turner-interview-one-night-only-bond-dua-lipa-1236617120\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/callum-turner-interview-one-night-only-bond-dua-lipa-1236617120\/\">Callum Turner<\/a> as two single New Yorkers attempting to find a partner on the one night per year when premarital sex is permitted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<em>One Night Only<\/em> is getting off to a similar start to director Will Gluck\u2019s previous feature, <em>Anyone but You<\/em>, which starred Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney and opened to $6 million in 2023 before word of mouth carried it to sleeper-hit status. Reviews for <em>One Night Only<\/em> have been mixed, as the movie holds a 48 percent approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. In his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/one-night-only-review-monica-barbaro-callum-turner-1236664648\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">review for <em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em><\/a>, chief film critic David Rooney wrote that the leads\u2019 \u201ceasygoing chemistry makes us root for them to get over the many contrived hurdles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tNewcomer <em>Super Troopers 3<\/em> is looking to open in fifth place with an estimated $3.9 million from 2,760 North American screens. Earning a B- CinemaScore from audiences, the Searchlight release is director Jay Chandrasekhar\u2019s latest sequel in the comedy franchise about Vermont state troopers that launched with the 2001 original.
