In a way, it was like he died in real life,\u201d his longtime pal Bo Dietl, 75, exclusively told Page Six.<\/p>\n<p>Pastore \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/08\/01\/celebrity-news\/sopranos-star-vincent-pastore-dead-at-80\/\">who died Aug. 1 at 80<\/a> \u2014 portrayed Salvatore \u201cBig Pussy\u201d Bonpensiero on the HBO hit from 1999 to 2007, appearing in 30 episodes. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Bo Dietl, pictured in 2017 with late friend class=\"credit\">HBO<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>However, his appearances were relegated to sporadic dreams and flashbacks after his character\u2019s death in the Season 2 finale in April 2000.<\/p>\n<p>The legendary NYPD detective-turned-private investigator, who has also been acting for more than 30 years, first worked with Pastore in Martin Scorsese\u2019s mob masterpiece \u201cGoodfellas\u201d in 1990.<\/p>\n<p>The two also appeared together in \u201cCarlito\u2019s Way\u201d and, most recently, \u201cGravesend,\u201d in 2025, which is the last time Dietl last spent time with Pastore.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter spirits last time I saw him, me, him and Chaz \u2026 it was just like old times.\u201d Dietl stated, adding that his friend seemed to be happy and <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/08\/02\/celebrity-news\/vincent-pastore-seen-celebrating-80th-birthday-weeks-before-death\/\">doing well at the time<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was a great guy that everyone liked,\u201d Dietl said before mournfully adding, \u201cHe should have been cast in a lot of other movies, he was a great actor.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When not <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2019\/07\/30\/bo-dietl-to-be-featured-in-scorseses-starry-film-the-irishman\/\">acting alongside real-life<\/a> or fictional criminals, Dietl serves as a member of href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/08\/06\/celebrity-news\/sopranos-star-vincent-pastore-honored-as-one-of-kind-by-daughter-stevie-van-zandt-in-touching-funeral-tributes\/\">said their final goodbyes<\/a> during Pastore\u2019s funeral Thursday at the Holy Family Church in New Rochelle.<\/p>\n<p>A veteran of the Vietnam War, Pastore was carried out of the church in a coffin draped with the American flag.<\/p>\n<p>He is survived by one daughter, Renee Pastore, who encouraged funeralgoers \u201cto pass on what he has given to you\u201d through acts of kindness during her father\u2019s
