Of course, the previous second weekend high for Sony belonged to 2021\u2019s <em>Spider-Man: No Way Home<\/em>\u2018s $84.5M. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At $143M, <em>Brand New Day <\/em>will own the third highest second frame ever at the domestic B.O. Currently, PLF screens and Spidey\u2019s added Imax screens are driving 33% of the weekend. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With a running cume of<strong> $653M<\/strong>, Brand New Day has the highest 10-day gross in the history of the domestic box office. Pic\u2019s second Friday came in higher than what we were seeing at <strong>$43M<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While this will be the third best weekend overall at the domestic box office YTD, thanks to Spidey and <em>The Odyssey, <\/em>with more than <strong>$204M<\/strong> (after last weekend\u2019s all-time record $437.1M and <em>Toy Story 5<\/em>\u2018s opening frame of June 19-21 which drove $231.6M), it\u2019s not a situation where the tide lifts all boats. It was also a niche IP. Fans on CinemaScore gave it a B- to the previous chapter\u2019s B+. Yesterday was $1.7M including $350K previews. The threequel isn\u2019t arresting critics at 47%, but that\u2019s the highest critical score the franchise has ever seen over <em>Super Troopers 2 <\/em>(35%) and <em>Super Troopers <\/em>(37%). Pic\u2019s majority were guys at 72%, with the 35-44 set being 37% and the over 35 demo being 68%. Diversity demos were 64% Caucasian, 15% Latino and Hispanic, 11% Asian American and 6% Black. AMC Grove has the movie\u2019s best cash at $6K. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Horror Section\u2019s Eli Roth genre title <em><strong>Ice Cream Man<\/strong> <\/em>is melting with an estimated <strong>$2M<\/strong> start after $1M yesterday. No CinemaScore or PostTrak exits. AMC Empire in NYC is the top grossing venue with just over $8K. This is all figured from an estimated 3-day of <strong>$360K <\/strong>at six NYC and LA sites. Yesterday was $151K for the Matt Johnson directed, Dominic Sessa, Antonio Banderas and Leo Woodall starring feature which is 95% certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with critics. AMC Lincoln Square NYC led with $28K yesterday, followed by LA\u2019s Grove at $26K, Alamo Brooklyn at $26K, AMC Century City with $18K and AMC Burbank with $16K. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">More..<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>FRIDAY AFTERNOON:<\/strong> 2026 will see its fifth $100M+ No. 1 weekend at the domestic B.O. as the sophomore session of <em><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/spider-man-brand-new-day\/\" id=\"auto-tag_spider-man-brand-new-day\" data-tag=\"spider-man-brand-new-day\">Spider-Man: Brand New Day<\/a><\/strong>, <\/em>armed with PLF and now Imax screens, is looking at <strong>$135M-$140M<\/strong>+ at 4,487 theaters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That easily would deliver the third-best second frame ever at the domestic B.O. behind 2015\u2019s <em>Star Wars: The Force Awakens<\/em> ($149.2M) and 2019\u2019s <em>Avengers: Endgame <\/em>($147.3M) and ahead of 2018\u2019s <em>Avengers: Infinity War <\/em>($114.7M).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second Friday for the Sony\/Marvel Studios theatrical release is around $40M, -76% from its record first Friday\/preview day of $169.8M. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the high-end, the ten-day cume looks to be <strong>$650.8M<\/strong> by EOD Sunday, which would be 5% ahead of <em>Endgame <\/em>at the same point in time, that Marvel Russo Brothers feature ending its initial run at $858.3M (remember, <em>Endgame <\/em>is <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/12\/avengers-endgame-re-release-avengers-doomsday-1236637716\/\">getting a re-release in September<\/a>. Nonetheless, studios and indie distributors are hoping for a tide that lifts all boats in summer\u2019s finale beginning this weekend with Universal\u2019s romantic comedy <em><strong>One Night Only<\/strong> <\/em>from <em>Anyone But You <\/em>director Will Gluck, which did <strong>$1.35 million<\/strong> in combined Thursday night and Monday secret screening previews.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s exactly what <em>Anyone but You <\/em>did in its Thursday night previews in its pre-Christmas weekend, leading to a $6M start and immense 14.7x multiple over the 2023 year-end holiday. The hope here is that <em>One Night Only<\/em>, which stars Callum Turner and Monica Barbaro, is a first choice for women over\/under 25, will exceed $10M.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sole Thursday preview take for <em>One Night Only <\/em>was $750,000. Its Rotten Tomatoes film review score is low at 47%, under <em>Anyone but You<\/em>\u2018s 53%, but the movie isn\u2019t for critics. The rom-com two centers on two New Yorkers who search for love on the one night of the year when premarital sex is legal. The pic is booked at 3,012 theaters Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As we already told you, <em><strong>Spider-Man: Brand New Day <\/strong><\/em>was the fastest movie to <a data-id=\"1237028214\" data-type=\"post\" href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2026\/08\/box-office-spider-man-brand-new-day-fastest-half-billion-record-1237028214\/\">cross a half-billion dollars domestically in seven days<\/a>, beating <em>Avengers: Endgame<\/em>\u2018s pace to that benchmark, which was eight days. The updated Thursday number for the Tom Holland and Zendaya pic is <strong>$29M<\/strong>, putting its running stateside cume at <strong>$510.8M<\/strong>. Even at a 60% ease in Weekend 2, which is the general hold for these solid superhero movies, <em>Brand New Day <\/em>would land at $144M. That would make it the third-best sophomore frame ever behind <em>Star Wars: The Force Awakens <\/em>($149.2M) and <em>Endgame <\/em>($147.3M).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Also opening this weekend is Searchlight\u2019s<strong> <em>Super Troopers <\/em><\/strong><em><strong>3<\/strong> <\/em>at 2,760 theaters with an expected single-digit-millions opening.
