{"id":32547,"date":"2026-08-08T13:36:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-08T08:36:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=32547"},"modified":"2026-08-08T13:36:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T08:36:12","slug":"the-simpsons-actress-nancy-cartwright-predicts-when-hit-show-will-end","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=32547","title":{"rendered":"\u2018The Simpsons\u2019 actress Nancy Cartwright predicts when hit show will end"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F2%2F2026%2F08%2Fsimpsons.jpg?quality%3D90%26strip%3Dall\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>\u201cThe Simpsons\u201d could have an end date in sight \u2014 at least according to one of its longtime stars.<\/p>\n<p>Nancy Cartwright, who has voiced Bart Simpson since 1987, revealed that the animated sitcom may wrap after Season 40, during an appearance on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=2fzMPrGExr4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michael Rosenbaum\u2019s \u201cInside of You\u201d podcast<\/a> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Asked how long she thinks \u201cThe Simpsons\u201d will be on the air, Cartwright answered, \u201c40 [seasons].\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>\u201cThe Simpsons\u201d voice actress Nancy Cartwright hinted the iconic show could wrap up after its 40th season. <span class=\"credit\">Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum\/YouTube<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The show, which first aired as a standalone series in 1989 after debuting as shorts on \u201cThe Tracey Ullman Show\u201d two years earlier, finished its <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/29\/entertainment\/simpsons-producers-clarify-if-mr-largo-died-in-season-37-premiere\/\">37th season<\/a> in February. <\/p>\n<p>Rosenbaum followed up by asking if Cartwright really thought it would stop at 40 seasons.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cYeah,\u201d Cartwright said, before adding, \u201cIt\u2019s my opinion\u201d when he pressed her on whether she was sure.<\/p>\n<p>But Cartwright, who is also responsible for several other voices on the show, made clear that she is open to going beyond 40 seasons if the show wants to continue.<\/p>\n<p>Rosenbaum asked what she would do if producers said, \u201cWe wanna keep going?\u201d Cartwright joked, \u201cAre we still alive?\u201d before asking whether everyone else would still be around, too.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The classic animated sitcom has been on the air since 1987 and finished its 37th season in February. <span class=\"credit\">CR: FOX<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Once Rosenbaum confirmed that everyone was still working, Cartwright said, \u201cYeah, we\u2019ll keep going then.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Asked if she would stay on for as long as it wanted to continue, she replied, \u201cAbsolutely.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last year, Fox locked down \u201cThe Simpsons\u201d for four more seasons as part of its \u201cAnimation Domination\u201d slate, which also features \u201cFamily Guy,\u201d \u201cBob\u2019s Burgers\u201d and \u201cAmerican Dad.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"NANCY CARTWRIGHT (Bart Simpson): 38 Seasons of THE SIMPSONS &amp; Eat My Shorts Improv\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2fzMPrGExr4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>The animation is also getting its second feature film next year, nearly 20 years after 2007\u2019s \u201cThe Simpsons Movie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When \u201cThe Simpsons\u201d hit its 800th episode earlier this year, showrunner Matt Selman told Page Six that he had <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/02\/15\/entertainment\/simpsons-showrunner-on-reaching-800-episodes-and-its-freaky-future-predictions\/\">never seriously expected the series to be canceled<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was never a point where I went to bed thinking, \u2018The show is probably going to end.
