They\u2019re loaded at tight end, they\u2019re loaded at [running back], if the offensive line is healthy, it\u2019s got a chance to be top five in the league,\u201d Orlovsky said.<\/p>\n<figure Herbert was crowned the NFL\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2021\/07\/14\/patrick-mahomes-justin-herbert-dig-taken-out-of-context\/\">Rookie of the Year winner<\/a> after having a season where struggled to close out the game, avoid turnovers, and step up when his team needs him to the most.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023, the Chargers blew a 27-0 lead against the Jacksonville Jaguars. In 2024, Herbert had a<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/01\/11\/sports\/stellar-defensive-play-lifts-texans-over-chargers-in-wild-card-clash\/\"> 4-interception performance against the Houston Texans<\/a> in the Wild Card, and l<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/12\/sports\/patriots-grind-out-first-playoff-win-since-2018-as-defense-dominates-chargers\/\">ast year, Herbert had his worst performance of the season<\/a>, where he went 19\/31 while throwing for 159 yards and 0 touchdowns.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the poor results, the team has been committed to building around their quarterback.<\/p>\n<p>This past offseason, the team went ahead and hired former Miami Dolphins head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/26\/sports\/mike-mcdaniel-officially-named-chargers-offensive-coordinator\/\">Mike McDaniel to be the new playcaller for Los Angeles<\/a>. The team also reinvested in their offensive line by selecting four offensive linemen during the NFL Draft, including center Jake Slaughter, who they selected in the second round.<\/p>\n<hr
