(Especially when it comes to his role as fan-favorite character, Danger.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In an exclusive conversation with <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/itslaurynbass\"><strong>BOSSIP\u2019s very own Lauryn Bass<\/strong>, <\/a>Chaffin reflected on the show\u2019s breakout success, the emotional evolution of Danger, and why portraying a layered Black man has become one of the most rewarding experiences of his career.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h-jon-chaffin-says-fans-never-forgot-about-diarra-from-detroit\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Jon Chaffin Says Fans Never Forgot About <em>Diarra From Detroit<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Looking back on Season 1, Chaffin admitted he always believed the series had the ingredients to resonate with audiences, but seeing fans continue talking about it long after the finale has been especially rewarding.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s been fantastic, honestly. Anytime that fans are engaged the way that they are is always a plus,\u201d Chaffin said. \u201cI had a feeling that we had something special when we were filming it. I was like, \u2018This is gonna hit.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"\/>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He credits the show\u2019s compelling storytelling, memorable characters, and standout guest stars (including Morris Chestnut and Phylicia Rashad) for helping draw viewers in.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m happy that the audience gravitated to the show. They love the characters, they love the story, and they\u2019re eagerly anticipating Season 2,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s one thing if people like it and then forget about it. They\u2019re actually looking forward to it. That\u2019s dope.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"h-danger-s-biggest-journey-is-just-beginning\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Danger\u2019s Biggest Journey Is Just Beginning<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Without revealing spoilers, Chaffin teased that Season 2 picks up after the shocking revelation that changed Danger\u2019s entire understanding of his life.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"\/>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI don\u2019t even think they\u2019re ready for this journey,\u201d he laughed. \u201cIt\u2019s so secret I can\u2019t even be in the poster or the trailer. They don\u2019t want to give anything away.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Chaffin, Danger spends much of the new season wrestling with the truth revealed in the Season 1 finale.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe\u2019s on a journey of self discovery, trying to get back to who he is and figure out exactly who that is because the bomb was dropped on him at the end of the first season,\u201d he explained. \u201cHe found out that his whole life is really based off of a lie, and it really messed him up mentally and emotionally.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That emotional unraveling, he says, becomes one of the season\u2019s strongest storylines.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s going to be a nice arc to see how he starts and where he ends. I\u2019m excited for the audience to watch it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"h-a-role-that-allowed-him-to-show-the-full-complexity-of-black-men\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Role That Allowed Him To Show The Full Complexity Of Black Men<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among his impressive r\u00e9sum\u00e9 <em>(which includes BMF, Perry Mason, P-Valley, and Quantum Leap), <\/em>Chaffin says Danger has become one of the most fulfilling characters he\u2019s ever portrayed.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDanger right now is the most fun because it\u2019s so multilayered,\u201d he said. \u201cA lot of what he\u2019s going through is internal. Diarra wanted me to bring as much of myself to Danger as possible.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The actor also revealed Season 2 pushed him physically, requiring additional training and stunt work.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI get to do things I don\u2019t normally get to do. I had to train this season, I get to do stunts, and I get to really tap into another side of myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"h-the-secret-behind-the-show-s-genre-bending-success\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Secret Behind The Show\u2019s Genre-Bending Success<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of <em>Diarra From Detroit\u2019s<\/em> defining qualities is its ability to seamlessly balance mystery, comedy, romance, and drama.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"\/>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Chaffin, the answer is simple: trust the material.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s just being true to the story and trusting the writing because it\u2019s so good,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also credited the collaborative environment on set, praising the cast\u2019s natural chemistry.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDominique Perry is a comedic genius. Brian Tyree Clark is hilarious, and Diarra is leading the show with the funny,\u201d Chaffin said. \u201cEverybody gets to shine, and it\u2019s really easy to step into the world and just go.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"h-the-goofball-behind-the-serious-roles\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Goofball Behind The Serious Roles<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although audiences often see him portraying emotionally intense characters, Chaffin says his real personality couldn\u2019t be more different.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\"\/>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m really silly,\u201d he laughed. \u201cPeople always see me playing these serious roles, but somebody needs to give me some comedy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He describes himself as clumsy, a proud father, and a devoted dog dad.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI love spending time with my son. I\u2019m a dog dad too,\u201d he added. \u201cI\u2019m really a goofball. I don\u2019t think people get to see that side of me because of the characters I play.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3 id=\"h-why-viewers-should-tune-in-for-season-2\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why Viewers Should Tune In For Season 2<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As anticipation builds for the July 29 premiere, Chaffin believes Diarra From Detroit continues to stand apart because it offers something audiences rarely get to see.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s a show for us, by us,\u201d he said. \u201cWe\u2019re showing all the complexities, the nuances, the crazy, the danger\u2014no pun intended\u2014and it\u2019s fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Describing the upcoming season as even bigger than the first, Chaffin teased more action, more adventure, and an impressive lineup of guest stars.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf you loved Season 1, we\u2019re just going to turn it up more in Season 2,\u201d he said. \u201cMethod Man came and did his thing. Bokeem Woodbine had so much fun. Phylicia Rashad came back. Glynn Turman. Harry Lennix. The list goes on.
