We hear the NHL star, 25, has been blabbing to pals that he broke up with the \u201cExes\u201d singer before they had a chance to publicly confirm their romance.<\/p>\n<p>One source told us Hughes ultimately ended the relationship because he started seeing \u201cred flags.\u201d They added he has already moved on and has started dating other people. McRae was spotted cheering him on at his hockey games, and spies also caught the duo \u201clooking flirty\u201d while having dinner at Anton\u2019s in the West Village last winter.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Hughes <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/03\/04\/celebrity-news\/tate-mcrae-and-jack-hughess-relationship-status-revealed\/\">reportedly pursued her by sliding into her DMs<\/a>. After months specualting about whether or not they were an item, a source told Us Weekly in March, \u201cThey started casually seeing each other late last year, so it\u2019s still new, but they are exclusively seeing each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Tate] thinks [Jack] is a really cool guy and they have been having a lot of fun together,\u201d the source said. \u201cShe has been so supportive of his career and has been loving going to the games and cheering him on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rumors of the couple splitting hit fever pitch this week, after<a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/08\/04\/entertainment\/tate-mcrae-addresses-maga-speculation-after-morgan-wallen-collaboration-jack-hughes-controversy\/\"> McRae was swept into a MAGA controversy<\/a>, when Hughes and his New Jersey Devils teammates laughed at a joke President Donald Trump made during a call congratulating them on their Olympic win.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>The duo first raised eyebrows when they were spotted in NYC last winter.  <span class=\"credit\">TheImageDirect.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>The New Jersey Devils star reportedly pursued McRae by sliding into her DMs,  <span class=\"credit\">Robert Sabo for NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>The \u201cExes\u201d singer was caught in a MAGA controversy this week because of her ex.  <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She addressed the controversy in an interview with Variety, explaining, \u201cI like to say my piece through organizations I support and the environment that I have on tour,\u201d she said. (McRae has supported nonprofits for LGBTW+ youth like The Trevor Project and female empowerment organizations such as the Global Fund for Women in the past).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s pretty obvious what kind of person I am and the things I support. And I hope that my fans can see that through the things that I\u2019m putting my energy towards,\u201d she added. <\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the Hollywood trade presented her with the Triple Threat Award at their Power of Young Hollywood event.
