{"id":31324,"date":"2026-08-07T17:42:04","date_gmt":"2026-08-07T12:42:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=31324"},"modified":"2026-08-07T17:42:04","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T12:42:04","slug":"gta-6-preorder-sales-during-latest-take-two-earnings-quarter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=31324","title":{"rendered":"GTA 6 Preorder Sales During Latest Take-Two Earnings Quarter"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tVideo game publisher <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/take-two-interactive\/\" id=\"auto-tag_take-two-interactive\" data-tag=\"take-two-interactive\">Take-Two Interactive<\/a> drew $1.39 billion in sales from April 1-June 30, the quarter during which it opened presales for \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/grand-theft-auto\/\" id=\"auto-tag_grand-theft-auto\" data-tag=\"grand-theft-auto\">Grand Theft Auto<\/a> 6,\u201d even as the company\u2019s losses widened. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tDuring a call with analysts later Friday, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/gta-6\/\" id=\"auto-tag_gta-6\" data-tag=\"gta-6\">GTA 6<\/a>\u201d had an \u201cexceptional start to pre-orders,\u201d which were open for five days during the quarter, but did not disclose specific sales numbers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe $1.39 billion in total net bookings was not broken down by title in the company\u2019s earnings results Friday, but Take-Two noted the number primarily reflected \u201cbetter-than-expected performance\u201d from the \u201cNBA 2K\u201d and \u201cGTA\u201d franchises. \u201cNBA 2K\u201d net bookings were up 7% and \u201cGTA\u201d rose 3%.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIt should be noted that net bookings, a standard earnings metric across the video game industry, are recorded when an order is placed, while Take-Two only calculates revenue based on its actual earned income. Finalized revenue for the quarter came in at $1.53 billion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOverall, net bookings were down 3% from $1.42 billion in the prior year\u2019s quarter. Losses for the quarter was $34.1 million compared with a loss of $11.9 million year over year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tPre-orders for \u201cGTA 6\u201d launched June 25, one day after Take Two-Interactive\u2019s Rockstar Games\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/gaming\/news\/gta-6-price-single-player-pre-orders-1236789407\/\">revealed pricing for<\/a> the game\u00a0would be $79.99 for the standard edition, which can be purchased as a digital or physical (which includes a code in a box rather than a disc) copy. The \u201cultimate\u201d version will cost $99.99 and include \u201can exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action threaded across all aspects\u201d of the game.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tTake-Two took a $43.4 million impairment charge during the quarter attributed to the \u201cdecision not to proceed with further development of an unannounced title in its pipeline from a third-party developer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWall Street forecast a GAAP loss of earnings per share (EPS) of 21 cents on $1.36 billion in revenue, according to analyst consensus data provided by LSEG. Take-Two reported a GAAP loss per share of 18 cents on $1.39 billion in net bookings. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cOur excellent first quarter results reflect the power of our portfolio and disciplined execution across all of our labels,\u201d Zelnick said in a letter to shareholders. \u201cWith these positive trends and excitement around the November 19th launch of \u2018Grand Theft Auto VI,\u2019 we are reiterating our Fiscal 2027 Net Bookings outlook of $8.0 to $8.2 billion.
