{"id":31249,"date":"2026-08-07T16:12:23","date_gmt":"2026-08-07T11:12:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=31249"},"modified":"2026-08-07T16:12:23","modified_gmt":"2026-08-07T11:12:23","slug":"russian-retailer-wildberries-warehouse-burns-in-ukraine-drone-attack","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=31249","title":{"rendered":"Russian retailer Wildberries&#8217; warehouse burns in Ukraine drone attack"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F2%2F2026%2F08%2F136727109.jpg?quality%3D90%26strip%3Dall\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module alignleft\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/aside>\n<p>Ukrainian long-range drones hit a warehouse in the Ural Mountains belonging to\u00a0Russia\u2019s biggest online retailer, more than 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles) from the two countries\u2019 border, local officials and the company said Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine has regularly hit targets in the distant Urals this year and has <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/06\/20\/world-news\/ukraine-blasts-one-of-siberias-largest-refineries-in-what-may-be-wars-farthest-attack-into-russia\/\">even struck a Russian oil refinery in western Siberia<\/a>, nearly 2,500 kilometers (1,550 miles) from the border.<\/p>\n<p>The attacks are examples of how <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/25\/world-news\/ukraine-has-leg-up-in-russia-war-with-out-of-this-world-military-innovation\/\">Kyiv has used\u00a0drone innovation\u00a0as a key part of its response<\/a> to the\u00a0invasion\u00a0by its much bigger enemy more than four years ago.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>A satellite image of a damaged Wildberries facility after a Ukrainian drone attack in Russia\u2019s Tula region, Aug. 7, 2026. <span class=\"credit\">via REUTERS<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Its successes have drawn international interest and drone cooperation agreements with nine countries, with further deals being negotiated with 15 other countries, according to Kyiv officials.<\/p>\n<p>A Wildberries warehouse in Yekaterinburg, Russia\u2019s fourth-largest city, was set ablaze by the attack, the company said. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Most merchandise wasn\u2019t damaged, it said, unlike at some of the more than a dozen other Wildberries depots struck by Ukraine in recent weeks that have burned down.<\/p>\n<p>Kyiv is trying to rattle the Russian public and the Kremlin with the attacks.<\/p>\n<p>The regional governor, Denis Pasler, said three drones hit the warehouse\u2019s roof. Artyom Zhoga, the Kremlin\u2019s representative in the region, said that 800 people were evacuated from the warehouse and nobody was hurt.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ukraine presses on with plans for new weapons<\/h2>\n<p>Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is pushing for his country to keep up the pace of technological development, especially in air defense systems to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/05\/world-news\/why-russias-ballistic-missiles-are-increasingly-getting-through-ukrainian-defenses\/\">help\u00a0stop Russian ballistic missiles<\/a>\u00a0that are exploiting Ukraine\u2019s shortage of American-made\u00a0Patriot interceptor missiles\u00a0and battering civilian areas.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0joint European anti-ballistic development program\u00a0is already underway, Zelensky said late Thursday, with 10 countries engaged in developing an anti-ballistic shield. We need to turn this into a real weapon,\u201d Zelensky said.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Defenders are under pressure in eastern Ukraine<\/h2>\n<p>Ukrainian front-line defenses in eastern regions, meanwhile, remain under strain as Russia\u2019s bigger army looks for a breakthrough after months of minimal advances that Western analysts and official says have <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/02\/world-news\/russia-losing-8-troops-for-every-1-ukraine-solider-killed-report\/\">had a high cost for Moscow in troop casualties<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine has been evacuating children from Kramatorsk, one of the four eastern Donetsk region cities that make up Ukraine\u2019s so-called Fortress Belt.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>A helicopter flies past smoke rising from a warehouse near Saint Petersburg after a Ukrainian drone strike, July 24, 2026. <span class=\"credit\">AFP via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The line of four large and heavily defended cities, about 50 kilometers (30 miles) long, has been key to denying Moscow its goal of seizing Ukraine\u2019s industrial heartland.<\/p>\n<p>The head of the Donetsk region\u2019s regional military administration, Vadym Filashkin, said Friday that more than 800 people, including 91 children, were evacuated over the previous 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Ukraine has been deploying\u00a0midrange strike drones\u00a0to disrupt Russia\u2019s supply lines and slow it advance.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Russia and Ukraine sustain nightly drone attacks<\/h2>\n<p>Russia\u2019s air defenses downed 203 Ukrainian drones from late Thursday through early Friday, the Defense Ministry in Moscow said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Russia attacked Ukraine with 147 long-range strike drones, according to the country\u2019s air force.<\/p>\n<p>In Ukraine\u2019s northern Sumy region, a Russian drone struck a busy market Friday morning, wounding 10 people, authorities said.<\/p>\n<p>Russia also launched glide bombs and drones of various types at the regional capital, according to the head of regional administration, Oleh Hryhorov.<\/p>\n<p>The attack targeted residential buildings, transport and infrastructure, wounding two people, he said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<script async=\"async\" data-cfasync=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/pl30214220.effectivecpmnetwork.com\/9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<div id=\"container-9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\"><\/div>\r\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ukrainian long-range drones hit a warehouse in the Ural Mountains belonging to\u00a0Russia\u2019s biggest online retailer, more than 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles) from the two countries\u2019 border, local officials and the company said Friday.
