He<a href=\"https:\/\/okmagazine.com\/t\/married\/\"> tied the knot<\/a> with Chao \u2014 who previously served as secretary of labor under former President <a href=\"https:\/\/okmagazine.com\/t\/george-w-bush\/\"><strong>George W. Bush<\/strong><\/a> and as transportation secretary under President <a href=\"https:\/\/okmagazine.com\/t\/donald-trump\/\"><strong>Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 in a private ceremony at the chapel on Capitol Hill in 1993.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People remark that I&#8217;m in a mixed marriage. His children have largely remained out of the public spotlight.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/magazine\/2020\/04\/20\/how-mitch-mcconnell-became-trumps-enabler-in-chief\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>The New Yorker<\/em><\/a>, Elly \u2014 Mitch&#8217;s eldest child \u2014 is a registered Democrat. Both Elly and Claire generally maintain more private lives than Porter.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Porter previously served as the campaign director for Take On Wall Street, an organization supported by labor unions and nonprofit groups, from 2017 to 2025. In my generation, we were taught that we can have it all. &#8230; It doesn&#8217;t work like that.
