The comments were shared by Wisconsin reporter <strong>Vanessa Kjeldsen<\/strong> and other local media outlets.<\/p>\n<p>Crowley responded to accusations that he is the &#8220;establishment&#8221; candidate since he came into the race with the endorsement of incumbent Wisconsin Governor <strong>Tony Evers<\/strong> (D).<\/p>\n<p>He <a href=\"https:\/\/wisconsinexaminer.com\/2026\/08\/06\/milwaukee-county-executive-david-crowley-meets-voters-in-madison-with-five-days-until-election-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;m trying to figure out who the establishment is, right? I think when we talk about the establishment, I don&#8217;t know who that is. I&#8217;m a kid who grew up in the 53206 zip code. My parents was drug addicts and suffered from mental health. I worked extremely hard to be where I am today. And so when people try to call me the establishment, I look at that as a slur, particularly as an African-American candidate. And so I have never ran for office to protect the establishment. I&#8217;ve always been here to protect the people. That&#8217;s my foundation. That&#8217;s what I&#8217;m going to continue to do as a county executive and it&#8217;s what I&#8217;m going to do as the governor.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Crowley is facing a handful of Democratic candidates going into the Wisconsin gubernatorial Democratic primary, which will occur next week. The splashiest candidate he&#8217;s facing is arguably progressive <strong>Francesca Hong<\/strong>, whose had quite a journey during her campaign, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/politics\/francesca-hong-now-claims-thanksgiving-is-her-favorite-holiday-after-calling-to-cancel-it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">declaring<\/a> Thanksgiving to be her favorite holiday after previously calling for it to be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/media\/tv\/should-thanksgiving-be-canceled-socialist-candidate-cant-give-cnn-a-straight-answer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">canceled<\/a>. Last month, reports dropped on a previous social media account associated with Crowley that had published vulgar messages on social media.<\/p>\n<p>The Democratic candidate defended himself on MS NOW, saying the account, which used the handle \u201cDirt McGirk\u201d and was created in 2010, was accessible to a dozen people. Crowley&#8217;s campaign claimed he did not author the more controversial posts published by the account, which include messages <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/No_pork_plz\/status\/14715871797\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">like<\/a>, &#8220;That\u2019s just NASTY!!!
