This law allows certain defendants under 18 to complete rehabilitation instead of serving an adult prison sentence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As part of the agreement, Butler was ordered to complete <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boredpanda.com\/weirdest-things-therapists-said\/\" class=\" staff-link\">counseling<\/a> and therapy, perform 150 hours of community service, attend weekly meetings with the Office of Juvenile Affairs, complete daily check-ins, follow a curfew, stay off social media, and pay $3,300 in restitution.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During the August 3 hearing, the judge ruled Butler had completed every requirement without violating the terms of the program, per <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CBS <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">affiliate <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">KWTV<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a result, the court dismissed the case, ending all state <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boredpanda.com\/terrible-boss-stories\/\" class=\" staff-link\">supervision<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Butler, who turned 19 this year, will not serve additional <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boredpanda.com\/biggest-misconception-life-inside-prison\/\" class=\" staff-link\">jail<\/a> time through the state case. His attorneys are also working to have the case removed from his record.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>The new Oklahoma DA strongly criticized Butler\u2019s defense during the hearing<\/b><\/h3>\n<p 400;\">During the proceedings, Butler\u2019s attorney, Derek Chance, argued that Butler was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boredpanda.com\/messed-up-things-only-realize-older\/\" class=\" staff-link\">innocent<\/a> and had also suffered because of the case, per the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oklahoman.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Those comments ignited an immediate response from newly elected Payne County District Attorney Jeremiah Gregory, who said he had not been told such statements would be made in court.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a strongly worded statement after the hearing, Gregory said, \u201cToday\u2019s hearing included disingenuous assertions from the defense regarding the defendant\u2019s innocence, that he was the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boredpanda.com\/disturbing-cases-that-left-victims-trapped-in-real-life-horror\/\" class=\" staff-link\">victim<\/a> in this matter, and that the victim\u2019s assertions were false.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gregory described the defense\u2019s statements as \u201cgarbage\u201d and a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.boredpanda.com\/random-nonsense-animal-images\/\" class=\" staff-link\">nonsense<\/a> soliloquy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He also explained that because Butler had already pleaded no contest and completed his sentence, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boredpanda.com\/oklahoma-wildlife-conservation-department-twitter\/\" class=\" staff-link\">Oklahoma<\/a> could not prosecute him again under constitutional protections against double jeopardy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI cannot undo what has already been done.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Still, Gregory said his office would refer the matter to federal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boredpanda.com\/destructive-lies-human-history\/\" class=\" staff-link\">authorities<\/a> for possible review.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI staff-link\">arguments<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She said Butler\u2019s attorney wrongly suggested that video evidence proved Butler was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boredpanda.com\/messed-up-things-only-realize-older\/\" class=\" staff-link\">innocent<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHe was basically saying that Butler was the victim and that he was innocent\u2026 and that\u2019s just not the truth.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bussett referred to a video <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boredpanda.com\/detectives-private-investigators-strangest-case-stories\/\" class=\" staff-link\">investigators<\/a> recovered during the case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to court records, the recording allegedly showed Butler strangling one victim until she lost consciousness.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The defense argued the recording showed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boredpanda.com\/people-dont-obsess-over-degrading-fantasies-for-the-reason-many-think\/\" class=\" staff-link\">consensual<\/a>
