The teenager, who has not been identified, was detained, though it remains unclear whether he has been charged.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-a61fc6\" class=\"body-graf\">The victim was identified as John Wesley Allen Sr., 78, according to the St. Clair County Coroner\u2019s Office. Allen died of multiple stab wounds, the coroner said. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-83bdde\" class=\"body-graf\">State police acknowledged that \u201cvideo footage of the suspect dressed in a clown costume has been circulating\u201d and said they are working to obtain all video related to the case. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-8fc4d4\" class=\"body-graf\">Doorbell camera video obtained by NBC affiliate KSDK of St. Louis showed a person whose face was partly covered looking into the camera and saying, \u201cI have a gift for you.\u201d Neighbors told the outlet they saw the teenager going door to door with a large knife Monday night.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-6359d2\" class=\"body-graf\">Corrine Spry was sitting on her back porch with her family when she saw the attacker twirling the knife. She watched him roam the area for about 45 minutes before police arrived.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-56cf4a\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cHe was up to no good,\u201d Spry said. \u201cWe\u2019re pretty positive he circled back around in these woods, because you could hear the sticks breaking.\u201d <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-ace06c\" class=\"body-graf\">Spry said the attacker could have targeted any neighborhood residents \u2014 a thought that still unsettles her, given how easily the situation could have escalated.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-2842b1\" class=\"body-graf\">Lee Palmer said that the person approached his mother\u2019s home, where she lives alone, but that she didn\u2019t open the door.
