{"id":29937,"date":"2026-08-06T14:54:43","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T09:54:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=29937"},"modified":"2026-08-06T14:54:43","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T09:54:43","slug":"gta-6-may-still-be-delayed-into-2027-warns-former-rockstar-dev","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=29937","title":{"rendered":"GTA 6 may still be delayed into 2027 warns former Rockstar dev"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" width=\"646\" height=\"363\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/SEI_301932340-0a8a.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=646\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28831765\" alt=\"GTA 6 artwork of the two main characters\" decoding=\"sync\"\/>\t<\/div><figcaption>GTA 6 has been delayed twice already (Rockstar Games)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There\u2019s hope that a new trailer for <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/grand-theft-auto-6\/\">GTA 6<\/a> will drop this month, but there also remains the possibility of another delay.<\/p>\n<p>Despite promises of <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/02\/04\/gta-6-marketing-hype-begins-this-summer-take-two-denies-new-delay-26703090\/\">a summer marketing campaign<\/a> for GTA 6, there\u2019s still very little sign of that happening, even though <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/06\/25\/gta-6-pre-orders-open-now-uk-standard-ultimate-edition-prices-confirmed-28908559\/\">pre-orders for the game<\/a> have now started.<\/p>\n<p>If it were any other developer, this would be cause for concern, but Rockstar\u2019s penchant for extreme secrecy is rivalled only by <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/nintendo\/\">Nintendo<\/a> and the fact that pre-orders are available has convinced most fans that the game will be ready for its November 19 release date.<\/p>\n<p>At this point it would be a major surprise for GTA 6 to be smacked with another delay, this close to launch, and yet it remains entirely possible, at least according to former Rockstar employee Mike York.<\/p>\n<p>York is a senior animator who worked on <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2013\/09\/16\/grand-theft-auto-v-review-the-ultimate-gta-4027404\/\">GTA 5<\/a> and <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2018\/10\/25\/red-dead-redemption-ii-review-the-good-the-fantastic-and-the-beautiful-8073719\/\">Red Dead Redemption 2<\/a> during his five year tenure at Rockstar. He left the studio in 2017 and is currently employed at Seattle-based studio Highwire Games.<\/p>\n<p>He was recently interviewed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indy100.com\/gaming\/gta-6-release-date-delay-2677661043\">Indy100<\/a> about his time at Rockstar and when asked about GTA 6\u2019s chances of meeting its release date, York admitted he \u2018would not be shocked at all\u2019 if it was delayed a third time.<\/p>\n<div class=\"factbox\" data-ico=\"factbox_article\" data-track-module=\"factbox_article\">\n<h2 class=\"factbox-title\">\n\t\t\t\tExpert, exclusive gaming analysis\t\t\t<\/h2>\n<div class=\"factbox-content\">\n<p>Sign up to the <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/newsletters\/game-central\/\"><strong>GameCentral newsletter<\/strong><\/a> for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This is based on his own experiences working on GTA 5, as he said that, \u2018If November comes around and they\u2019re thinking \u2018this final mission we have is still not looking very good and there are still a few bugs in this final mission\u2019, they\u2019ll push it six more months if they have to.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>As a reminder, GTA 5 also suffered a delay after pre-orders started. Initially, it was meant to launch in spring 2013, but Rockstar postponed it until that September for further polishing.<\/p>\n<p>The PC version was delayed no less than three times, while the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X\/S versions were pushed out of November 2021 and instead arrived four months later in March 2022.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube\">\n<p>\n<span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VQRLujxTm3c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Rockstar isn\u2019t afraid to delay games if it feels they need more time in the oven, even if people have already placed pre-orders. As York says, Rockstar doesn\u2019t feel they\u2019re under any restrictions.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018They can do whatever they want and people will wait right now, it doesn\u2019t matter. If they need to do what they need to do, they\u2019ll do it,\u2019 says York, adding, \u2018I don\u2019t think it would hurt them or anything.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>You only need to look at the pre-order data to see how much anticipation there is for GTA 6. Despite the lack of raw gameplay footage and Rockstar\u2019s continued silence, the game is predicted to <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/07\/16\/gta-6-earn-half-gta-5s-lifetime-sales-one-week-predicts-analyst-29154967\/\">make as much as $5.2 billion<\/a> (about \u00a33.8 billion) in its first week, that\u2019s approximately half of GTA 5\u2019s entire lifetime revenue.<\/p>\n<p>Another last minute delay into 2027 would be frustrating for fans, although other publishers might be even more annoyed since they\u2019ve purposely shoved all their biggest releases <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/06\/12\/2026s-autumn-release-schedules-pure-insanity-not-gta-6s-fault-28740434\/\">into the September and October windows<\/a> to avoid GTA 6\u2026 which would be for naught if GTA 6 is delayed again.<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, it is theorised that there\u2019ll be an update on GTA 6 this month, ideally in the form of a new trailer, since Take-Two is having its next earnings call tomorrow, on August 7.<\/p>\n<p><a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/07\/30\/gta-6-news-coming-soon-says-insider-fans-question-summer-marketing-plans-29261125\/\">Insider NateTheHate<\/a> has also expressed confidence that GTA 6\u2019s lack of updates isn\u2019t cause for concern, saying \u2018I expect to see a fair bit of GTA 6\u2019 this month.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"410\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/SEI_303362581-9d6c.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=646\" class=\"article-image wp-image-28967893\" alt=\"Lucia in GTA 6 in a nightclub\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Do you think GTA 6 will be delayed again?
