The results from numerous MRIs, CT scans and an echocardiogram have alerted my medical team that I need another open-heart surgery. I really have no option and no choice as health is my number one priority. Grateful to have been chosen with a life full with the gift of music\u2026 Thank you for walking beside me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hughes had canceled his spring US tour earlier this year for an unnamed medical issue. His last live performance was on May 30th with his band the Dead Daisies, with whom he has recorded two studio albums. The performance came under the name the Purple Daisies, with a special set devoted half to Deep Purple material. A second show under the banner had been booked for October 2nd, but has since been canceled due to Hughes\u2019 retirement.<\/p>\n<p>Related Video<\/p>\n<p>A variety of fellow rockers and former collaborators commented on the post, showing their love and support for the famed musician.<\/p>\n<p>Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme remarked, \u201cA man who\u2019s given us so much music and love with a heart as big yours\u2026 will one day have to rest and heal it. Look after yourself\u2026 and let us entertain you for a while.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Former Guns \u2018N\u2019 Roses drummer Matt Sorum commented, \u201cMy dear brother, Health is your main priority\u2026 We are here praying for you and sending the most healing vibes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani said, \u201cWishing you the speediest of recoveries Glenn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hughes has played in a number of legendary rock bands over the more than five decades of his career, including Trapeze, Deep Purple (Mark III and Mark IV lineups), Black Sabbath (<em>Seventh Star<\/em> album), and Black Country Communion, along with numerous guest appearances over the years.
