Circuit denied the request by Trump and his legal team to overturn a lower court\u2019s ruling that his name be scrubbed from the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, ruling that Trump\u2019s team has \u201cfailed to show how they will be irreparably injured absent a stay. \u201c<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s Kennedy Center team had told the appeals court that removal of the current president\u2019s name \u201c\u2018threatens to impede\u2019\u201d fundraising and will \u201c\u2018contribute to financial decline of the Center.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Related Video<\/p>\n<p>The appeals court said that argument had no backing, writing in an order that the president\u2019s team \u201coffer only the conclusory assertions\u201d by the Kennedy Center\u2019s Trump backed executive director \u201cin a factually unsupported declaration.\u201d Judges cited the lower courts ruling that \u201c\u2018there is no proof that current or future donations hinge on President Trump\u2019s name being on the building.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s team also tried to persuade the court that the center would not be able to fundraise and would have to return money if the 47th president\u2019s name isn\u2019t returned to the center. The appeals court also waved off that contention, saying Trump\u2019s team was just bringing up that assertion and hadn\u2019t brought the argument to the lower court\u2019s attention, \u201cand they have given no explanation for failing to do so.\u201d The appeals court wrote \u201csuch a post hoc argument cannot demonstrate an abuse of discretion by the district court.\u201d Trump\u2019s team \u201chave not satisfied the stringent requirements for a stay pending appeal,\u201d the court said.<\/p>\n<p>The denial of Trump\u2019s request to stop the name removal means that while the appeal to overturn the lower court\u2019s removal decision is ongoing the current president\u2019s name won\u2019t go back on the building. Trump could still win the appeal down the road and have his name reinstated on the center.<\/p>\n<p>The latest court ruling is another legal blow in Trump\u2019s saga with the Kennedy Center. In late May, a D.C. circuit court ordered the Kennedy Center to remove all vestiges of Trump\u2019s name, ruling that only Congress has authority to change the venue\u2019s name. The judge also halted plans for a closure for renovations. In June, Trump\u2019s name <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/06\/donald-trumps-name-torn-off-the-kennedy-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was torn from the Kennedy Center<\/a>.
