began a second round of U.S.-facilitated talks in Rome on Tuesday, with the negotiations set to run through Thursday, according to the U.S. State Department.<\/p>\n<p>The talks follow U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s separate meetings at the White House with Lebanese President Joseph\u00a0Aoun\u00a0and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and the launch of the first pilot zones in Southern Lebanon.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese discussions bring together technical teams from both governments to advance full implementation of the Trilateral Framework, including the pilot zone process, verified disarmament of Hezbollah and other Iran-backed security threats, redeployment of Israeli forces from Southern Lebanon, and laying the ground for a comprehensive peace and security for both countries, eliminates security threats to Israel, and restores Lebanese state authority throughout the south,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The delegation in\u00a0Rome\u00a0is focusing on working groups, covering areas such as military coordination, land and maritime borders and the disarmament of Hezbollah, an Israeli diplomatic source told JNS.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem on Tuesday\u00a0denounced\u00a0the resumption of Israel-Lebanon talks in Rome, saying negotiations with Jerusalem had brought the country \u201cnothing except shame.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDirect negotiations have brought Lebanon nothing except shame, humiliation, disappointment and one concession after another,\u201d said Qassem, according to Lebanon\u2019s\u00a0Al Mayadeen\u00a0channel, which is affiliated with Hezbollah.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter enemy\u2019s only option is a complete withdrawal\u2014and it will withdraw.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon\u00a0Michel Issa\u00a0expressed cautious optimism ahead of the talks in Rome, while noting that \u201ca great deal of technical work remains\u201d to ensure \u201ccivilian safety on the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a meaningful difference between drafting an agreement on paper and implementing it responsibly,\u201d Issa said of the framework agreement between Jerusalem and Beirut, adding that \u201cmoving too quickly risks jeopardizing the very civilians this process is meant to protect.\u201d He emphasized that both sides \u201cmust agree on a clear, workable process before proceeding.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<script async=\"async\"
