One of the most engaging parts of <em>Spider-Man: Brand New Day<\/em> is that its narrative knows when to follow the classic superhero story path, and when to go entirely outside of those parameters.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! --><\/p>\n<p>While the film provides classic superhero movie moments like the Spider-Man vs Hulk fight and several dramatic displays of Jean Grey&#8217;s powers, we also get a slew of moments that are strikingly unique, like Spider-Man inventing the inhibitor chips, an undercover Peter (or &#8220;Ned&#8221;) talking to Bruce Banner at Empire State University, or Spider-Man reuniting with MJ and Ned and building Lego in their living room.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s this careful balance that ensures <em>Spider-Man: Brand New Day<\/em> feels like a breath of fresh air and yet also like a classic superhero movie &#8211; which is in part accomplished by the movie intentionally destroying one of the most derided superhero movie story approaches in history via its own plot using this clich\u00e9 for a devastating finale scene.<\/p>\n<p>    <!-- No AdsNinja v10 Client! While this has been pulled off well in the past, it&#8217;s a plot approach that&#8217;s long been something of a clich\u00e9, and is a pet hate for plenty of superhero fans because of how it&#8217;s often used to simplify storylines, reduce character motivations down to fetch quests, and create a plot that uses comic concepts, but in a reductive way.<\/p>\n<p>Given the introduction of Jean Grey into the MCU with this movie, it seemed decidedly possible for V-Max to be something related to the MCU&#8217;s X-Men or mutant characters more generally speaking, since the franchise has held its cards close to its chest regarding how it will officially explain mutant characters having not been explained or introduced for so many years.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, though, the final act of <em>Spider-Man: Brand New Day<\/em> provides a much more devastating explanation for what V-Max really is.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than a secret serum or powerful artifact, Jean Grey&#8217;s search for V-Max &#8211; running off the last psychic communication she had with her missing sister Sara, wherein Sara said it as a clue to Jean &#8211; concludes with the reveal that V-Max is actually &#8220;Vent Max&#8221;.
