This post contains details from the final season of <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/wizards-beyond-waverly-place\/\" id=\"auto-tag_wizards-beyond-waverly-place\" data-tag=\"wizards-beyond-waverly-place\">Wizards Beyond Waverly Place<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/gregg-sulkin\/\" id=\"auto-tag_gregg-sulkin\" data-tag=\"gregg-sulkin\">Gregg Sulkin<\/a> can rest easy knowing there\u2019s a universe out there where Alex Russo and Mason Greyback are still together. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI mean, I think, in my heart, Alex and Mason are always endgame,\u201d he recently told Deadline after a brief role reprisal as the fan-favorite werewolf and Alex\u2019s former flame for the <em>Wizards Beyond Waverly Place<\/em> conclusion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSo, storyline wise, I think it\u2019s more in the heart than on the page, and I think all the fans around the world will resonate with that,\u201d he added. \u201cBut, of course, delighted to be back on the show. Delighted to work with Selena again. It\u2019s very special to be on back on set in my first American home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sulkin makes a delightful, if limited, appearance in the second of four episodes alongside former co-stars Selena Gomez and Jennifer Stone, also known as Alex\u2019s human best friend Harper Finkle. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As viewers know by now, <em>Wizards Beyond <\/em>follows Alex\u2019s daughter Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown), whom she shares with former dark wizard Damian Penwulf. But that\u2019s in the real world. In <em>this <\/em>world, Alex is still living with Harper and is dating Mason, who Harper believes is about to stop by with plans to propose.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But, when he gets there, he reveals something else. Mason can\u2019t propose, because he\u2019s dead. Through Mason\u2019s revelations, we learn that Alex has been in some sort of limbo state after throwing herself through a dimensional rift to save her family at the end of Season 2. He and Harper are there only to guide her back to her family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI felt like there was only one person who was going to do that, and thankfully, they chose Mason,\u201d he said. \u201cI think Mason has always been Alex\u2019s rock.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s been more than a decade since the <em>Wizards of Waverly Place <\/em>finale, and still Sulkin supposes \u201cit took three seconds\u201d to slip back into character.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAll I had to do was look at Selena, and it was like, \u2018Okay, cool, we\u2019re back,&#8217;\u201d he said. \u201cI think, when you have such a special bond with people on a professional and personal level, it\u2019s very easy to slip back into it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Wizards Beyond <\/em>has brought back many of the characters from the original <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/disney-channel\/\" id=\"auto-tag_disney-channel\" data-tag=\"disney-channel\">Disney Channel<\/a> series, which ran from 2007 to 2012, so it has always begged the question of whether these important characters would return in some capacity. While Alex and Mason were dating at the end of <em>Wizards of Waverly Place<\/em>, the continuation establishes early on that Alex has married someone else. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Wizards Beyond<\/em> follows Alex daughter Billie (Janice LeAnn Brown), who she shares with her husband and former dark wizard Damien Penwulf. In large part, the series follows Billie as she unwittingly works to help make her family whole again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whatever the canon may be, Sulkin remained open to returning throughout <em>Wizard Beyond<\/em>\u2018s short three-season run and had an inkling that the writers would find a way to eventually make sense of a return for Mason.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt was just a matter of fitting in the perfect slot for my character to come back, whilst also giving space for the new show to breathe, whilst also paying respect to my character, [and] Selena and I\u2019s characters\u2019 relationships,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He hoped the stars might align. \u201cAnd thankfully, they did.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s certainly a brutal end for a beloved original character, but luckily in this universe death doesn\u2019t feel quite so permanent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI think the amazing about wizards, and when you\u2019re dealing with magic, is that anything can happen,\u201d Sulkin reassured audiences, adding \u201cthis was a a chance to say goodbye for now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He says he\u2019ll \u201cnever say never\u201d to future opportunities for Mason\u2019s return, should the franchise spawn again. \u201cThe show gave me so much, so I feel like it would be very inconsiderate of me to not want to return the favor to the fans and also the channel for believing in me.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<script async=\"async\" data-cfasync=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/pl30214220.effectivecpmnetwork.com\/9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<div id=\"container-9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\"><\/div>\r\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SPOILER ALERT!
