Now the venue, which hadn\u2019t shown a first-run movie for 35 years, has announced it\u2019s the highest grossing theatre in the country for Christopher Nolan\u2019s mythological epic on the film format.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cThe response from audiences has been overwhelming and a wonderful reminder of how much people still value the shared experience of seeing a great film together,\u201d Alex\u2019s artistic director Miles Williams said in a statement which thanked Universal Pictures \u201cfor recognizing the important role historic theatres continue to play in Hollywood\u2019s cinematic legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<em>The Odyssey<\/em>\u2019s domestic box office total <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/spider-man-brand-new-day-box-office-opening-weekend-second-1236661703\/\">reached<\/a> $395.5 million over the weekend. The film relinquished first place to <em>Spider-Man: Brand New Day<\/em>, Sony\u2019s superhero sequel success story, which is sharing a portion of the Imax screens with Nolan\u2019s movie.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe 900-seat Alex, known for its mix of Classical Revival and Moderne architectural detailing, has been showing <em>The Odyssey<\/em> three times per day. (Its busy calendar is filled with live events, from ballet performances to rock concerts.) It intends to host periodic special engagements of other large-format releases, including Denis Villeneuve\u2019s <em>Dune: Part Three<\/em> in December and Greta Gerwig\u2019s <em>Narnia: The Magician\u2019s Nephew<\/em> in February 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe Alex invested $500,000 in technical upgrades, including a new ground-floor projection booth.
