The Gibsons inherited theirs from Karen\u2019s parents and moved in permanently in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Problems started when Philip replaced some fence panels between the two properties. The Gibsons complained that it was in the wrong place, not in a straight line, and trespassed on their property by 6 inches.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, the two families chose to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boredpanda.com\/neighbors-property-dispute-land-survey\/\" class=\" staff-link\">settle their differences<\/a> outside court and appointed an independent surveyor in 2015 to determine the boundary line.<\/p>\n<p>However, the News allegedly ignored the surveyor\u2019s decision and sought a second opinion, prompting the Gibsons to sue in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, the court finally ruled on the case in the Gibsons\u2019 favor, declaring the first surveyor\u2019s decision to be accurate.<\/p>\n<h3>The News\u2019 appeal to reduce their six-figure court bill completely Duddridge to determine how much the Gibsons were due.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, the News were <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boredpanda.com\/neighbor-fence-code-enforcement\/\" class=\" staff-link\">ordered to pa<\/a>y the Gibsons \u00a313,305 ($17,867) in combined damages and interest, and handed a court bill of around \u00a3120,000 ($161,142).<\/p>\n<p>Undeterred, the News soon launched a High Court appeal, arguing that the amount they were asked to pay was too high and should be reduced so their court bill ruling could be overturned.<\/p>\n<p class=\"attachment-link-container photo)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>However, things didn\u2019t go in the News\u2019 favor, as the amount they owed was hiked even further.<\/p>\n<p>On July 31, 2026, the court ruled to reduce the damages amount by only \u00a3700 ($940), but the News were handed a further \u00a319,000 ($25,515) as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boredpanda.com\/neighbours-breaking-property-lines-concrete-fence-revenge\/\" class=\" staff-link\">court bill<\/a> after finding in favor of the Gibsons \u201cin substance and reality.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Justice Nicholas Thompsell said that a \u00a3700 reduction did not justify overturning a six-figure court bill, bringing the News\u2019 combined total expenses to over \u00a3150,000 ($201,450).<\/p>\n<h3>Steve Gibson accused Philip New of removing a squirrel post of \u201cenormous \u201chostile\u201d after their early failed appeals.<\/p>\n<p>Steve also accused Philip New of removing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boredpanda.com\/photographer-captures-playful-squirrels-geert-weggen\/\" class=\" staff-link\">squirrel<\/a> ornament from a post on the Gibson property, then removing the post itself with his hands and a mallet.<\/p>\n<p>He said that Karen\u2019s parents had built the post, and he had bought the squirrel as a gift for his wife, making them both objects of \u201cenormous sentimental value.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The absence of the post also made it impossible for the Gibsons to bolt their gate shut, Steve said.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"post-desktop-ad-within-content post-ads margin-left\"><span class=\"dfp-ad\"><span><span class=\"pg-ad-label\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>During the damage assessment, Judge Duddridge rejected the Gibsons\u2019 claim to have lost a \u201csubstantial\u201d part of the garden due to the News\u2019 trespass.<\/p>\n<p>However, he also rejected the News\u2019 claim that they removed the squirrel post because they deemed it <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boredpanda.com\/neighbor-vandalizing-fence-drama\/\" class=\" staff-link\">too dangerous<\/a> or they believed it was on their property.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn my judgment, it was highly unreasonable for the defendants to remove the ornamental squirrel and the squirrel post at the time and in the manner they did,\u201d the judge said.<\/p>\n<h3>The News were YouTube and Facebook pages, titled <i>Neighbors<\/i> and <i>Magic Garden<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Both songs included explicit lyrics and described <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boredpanda.com\/bad-infuriating-neighbors\/\" class=\" staff-link\">unsavory acts<\/a> being done to seemingly teach a lesson to \u201cbad neighbors.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPi** in their garden, till it\u2019s quite late, when they\u2019re asleep, blow up their gate,\u201d read one set of lyrics from <i>Neighbors<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"post-desktop-ad-within-content post-ads margin-left\"><span class=\"dfp-ad\"><span><span class=\"pg-ad-label\">ADVERTISEMENT<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe song <i>Magic Garden<\/i> describes somebody who uses walking sticks and purports to be in pain when out in public, but throws their sticks away and is miraculously pain-free when in their garden, and is committing benefits fraud,\u201d Judge Duddridge read out during one court session.<\/p>\n<p>Steve Gibson, who has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boredpanda.com\/shocking-interesting-human-body-pics\/\" class=\" staff-link\">rare disability<\/a> affecting his bones, found the songs \u201cupsetting, hurtful, and hateful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Judge Duddrige said that while the songs did not mention the Gibsons and were not directly sent to them, he found enough evidence that they were exposing the couple \u201cto ridicule, humiliation and embarrassment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir content is offensive and defamatory,\u201d the judge said. \u201cIt aggravated the unpleasantness, emotional upset, and mental health issues caused by this dispute.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>\u201cOnly the lawyer will win.\u201d The internet reacted to the
