It was the supporting tour of her third album <em>So Close To What<\/em>, and a huge moment in time for her fans \u2014 there was so much demand for her they had to add on six new dates!<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/perezhilton.com\/tate-mcrae-reveals-relationship-status-amid-jack-hughes-rumors\/\">Related: Tate Reveals Whether She\u2019s Single Or Not Amid Jack Hughes Dating Rumors!\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>But with all that work came what Tate described to <em>Variety<\/em> as a really \u201cdark\u201d place. In her new interview that dropped on Monday, the 23-year-old pop star opened up about her mental health struggles that came after she wrapped up the tour. She even compared herself to the famous poet <strong>Sylvia Plath<\/strong>, who was known to struggle deeply with her mental health:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI remember reading Sylvia Plath being like, \u2018I am her.\u2019 My thoughts felt so dark at the time, and I felt so lonely. I really needed to come back into my body and regulate my nervous system. I was so shot after the tour. I couldn\u2019t really sleep at night.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Wow. The <em>Just Keep Watching<\/em> singer continued, opening up about her headspace at the time:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d seen so much of myself that I was like, \u2018I want to go into a black room and not look in a mirror for six months.\u2019 And I think I really had to check myself and be like, \u2018You\u2019re not the worst person in the world. You\u2019re not the ugliest person in the world. You haven\u2019t done everything wrong. And, you know, you\u2019re just doing what you love\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In another part of the interview, Tate addressed the anxiety she gets, and revealed dancing is her number one self care routine:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cSometimes in smaller rooms, you feel more nervous than [in front of] 20,000 people, and you start to target why you feel nervous and why you don\u2019t try to overcome that. I think it\u2019s muscle memory. When I was a kid feeling awkward in my skin or feeling uncomfortable, dancing was my way of feeling cool and feeling like I excelled at something. And I think I feel that way when I perform, like I\u2019m in my element.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>We\u2019re glad she\u2019s able to do what she loves and find an outlet. And we\u2019re sure she\u2019s got tons of support <a href=\"https:\/\/perezhilton.com\/tate-mcrae-jack-hughes-team-usa-officially-dating\/\">from her loved ones<\/a>, as well!<\/p>\n<p>It takes so much bravery to be so candid about your mental health. We\u2019re sending Tate love.
