She was 82.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tRivera, who played the grandmother of Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) in the 2021 film, died after suffering a stroke.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAccording to an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diamondheadmortuary.net\/obituaries\/mary-rivera-16\/obituary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">obituary online<\/a>, Rivera \u201cpassed away peacefully on April 15, 2026, in Honolulu.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tmz.com\/2026\/08\/03\/mary-rivera-dead\/\">TMZ<\/a> reported news of Rivera\u2019s death on Monday, August 3, with the family telling the outlet the actress was placed on life support after suffering a stroke. The doctors did not have a positive prognosis for Rivera if she ever returned from the coma, and with that information, \u201cthe family made the difficult decision to remove her from life support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tRivera\u2019s obituary notes that \u201cshe was very proud\u201d after she was cast in <em><a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/spider-man-no-way-home\/\" id=\"auto-tag_spider-man-no-way-home\" data-tag=\"spider-man-no-way-home\">Spider-Man: No Way Home<\/a><\/em> as the Filipino grandmother. She shared a scene with Batalon, Zendaya, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe family told TMZ that she \u201clived a good life\u201d and it was her family who encouraged her to audition for the role in the Sony Pictures film where she was able to speak in Tagalog.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn Rivera\u2019s memorable scene, Batalon and Zendaya open a portal hoping to get to Tom Holland\u2019s Peter Parker, but instead uncover a multiverse of Peters. Garfield first appears in the scene with Zendaya\u2019s MJ asking him to prove he\u2019s Spider-Man, to which he crawls on the ceiling.
