Nearly a quarter century since the iconic post-hardcore band was active, drummer <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/artist\/brendan-canty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brendan Canty<\/a> still holds out hope that a reunion is possible, telling <em>Consequence<\/em>, \u201cI never say never.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Washington, D.C. band formed in the late \u201980s, and built a massive fanbase with a DIY approach, charging just five dollars for their concerts and independently releasing albums via singer-guitarist Ian MacKaye\u2019s own label, Dischord Records. But fans who are not of a certain age never got the chance to see their legendary live shows.<\/p>\n<p><em>Consequence<\/em> caught up with Canty to <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/video\/fugazi-brendan-canty-stolen-kingdom-film-scoring-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">discuss his career scoring television programs and films<\/a>, including the new documentary <em>Stolen Kingdom<\/em>, and the drummer was kind enough to offer his thoughts on the current status of Fugazi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLuckily, we\u2019re all still friends,\u201d says Canty of his Fugazi bandmates (MacKaye, guitarist-singer Guy Picciotto, and bassist Joe Lally) in the video above. \u201cWe don\u2019t play live, but we get together all the time, and we see each other and communicate all the time\u2026 We put out that <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/03\/fugazi-albini-sessions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>In on the Kill Taker Albini Sessions<\/em><\/a> for charity [earlier this] year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From a personal standpoint, Canty would certainly like to perform with Fugazi again, noting, \u201cDo I wish we could keep playing? Yes. I wish we could all be out there playing now. I love those songs. I love writing with those guys, but we\u2019ll see.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Canty, who currently plays with Lally in the band The Messthetics, went on to say that he didn\u2019t anticipate the love Fugazi have received during these past two decades of dormancy. \u201cWhen Fugazi did go on hiatus, I was like, \u2018Oh well, that\u2019s it. Nobody\u2019s gonna give a shit about this band after this,\u2019 and that\u2019s not what happened.
