Yaroch is reported to have said he was upset he could not do more to disrupt cryptocurrency use by an adversarial nation during an investigation. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-b1a40b\" class=\"body-graf\">The adversarial nation was Russia, two sources familiar with the matter told NBC News.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-48c82a\" class=\"body-graf\">A federal public defender representing Yaroch declined to comment.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-4eb77d\" class=\"body-graf\">Yaroch said he made some very poor decisions, according to an FBI affidavit: \u201cYaroch said that he went into FBI systems and found keys needed to transfer money from wallets to himself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-6d5115\" class=\"body-graf\">He made up to a dozen transfers, which added up to just under $1 million, the affidavit says. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-6917ff\" class=\"body-graf\">Yaroch confessed because he was ashamed and it was \u201ceating him up inside\u201d and he wanted to get it off his chest, the affidavit says. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-c8c9d3\" class=\"body-graf\">Yaroch also submitted an online FBI self-report form and voluntarily met with personnel at FBI headquarters to discuss his actions \u2014 he told headquarters personnel he wanted to disclose something because he had \u201cscrewed up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-4be9b4\" class=\"body-graf\">The affidavit, however, says Yaroch \u201cnever interacted with anyone associated with the adversarial accounts, including foreign entities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-c52dd7\" class=\"body-graf\">When the FBI searched his home, Yaroch handed over his FBI credentials and details of his cryptocurrency wallets. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-06f6bf\" class=\"body-graf\">The total value of all transferred funds was about $925,426.07.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-126f7a\" class=\"body-graf\">U.S. Magistrate Judge Lindsey R. Vaala of the Eastern District of Virginia <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.vaed.602203\/gov.uscourts.vaed.602203.8.0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">ordered Yaroch temporarily detained<\/a> Monday. A hearing is set for Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-dfddcd\" class=\"body-graf\">The FBI said Monday that it \u201cimmediately took action\u201d as soon as it became aware of the allegations.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-630361\" class=\"endmark body-graf\">\u201cThe individual has since been fired from the Bureau.
