The law has previously been used by the DOJ in attempts to <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_politics_article_main-content_article-body_6_293\" href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/5994576-ed-doj-threaten-funding-cuts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">overturn<\/a> similar policies in Maine and California.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">LGBT advocates argue that nondisclosure for information linked to a child\u2019s gender identity is important to preserving the safety of children growing up in non-affirming or abusive households. and declined to provide information about it when confronted.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">An Education Department official told Fox News Digital that the agency does not comment on ongoing investigations and a DOJ spokesperson referred Fox News Digital to Dhillon&#8217;s remarks when reached for comment.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">Students enrolled in <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_politics_article_main-content_article-body_6_299\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/virginia-school-district-sued-over-alleged-policy-keeping-students-gender-transitions-hidden-from-parents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Anne Arundel Public Schools<\/a> are, per <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_politics_article_main-content_article-body_6_300\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/education\/2026\/07\/29\/trump-administration-challenges-maryland-school-districts-gender-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">district policy<\/a>, allowed to use any name or pronoun they prefer, even if it doesn\u2019t align with their sex, without requiring parental approval. In partnership with the Department of Education, the Department of Justice will initiate enforcement proceedings with districts that fail to comply.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">Dhillon&#8217;s letter gives Anne Arundel Public Schools seven days to rescind its policy, provide parents impacted with the relevant records and inform staff that they cannot withhold information from parents.
