Kennedy appeared increasingly frustrated by Bash\u2019s ability to do her job, something that was especially on display as he commented, \u201cYou probably don\u2019t understand this because you\u2019re not a scientist.\u201d Bash responded with a zinger of her own: \u201cWell, you\u2019re not, either.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_9185792176099109396mcePastedContent\">The interview invigorated the right-leaning newsletters, many of whom framed it as a sweeping victory for a man they see as a bringer of truth and real science. Those on the left offered more measured takes that highlight the troubling reality of health science in the United States\u2014and Kennedy\u2019s role in it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_9185792176099109396mcePastedContent\">As we creep toward the midterms, it\u2019s likely this conversation will continue to play out.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">THREE TAKES<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"m_9185792176099109396mcePastedContent\"><a href=\"https:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/nb\/jorge-bonilla\/2026\/08\/02\/rfk-jr-destroys-cnns-dana-bash-over-media-handling-covid-fauci\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/newsbusters.org\/blogs\/nb\/jorge-bonilla\/2026\/08\/02\/rfk-jr-destroys-cnns-dana-bash-over-media-handling-covid-fauci&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1785864758120000&amp;usg=AOvVaw27G73DShFxYykO7ZgcBp38\"><strong>Newsbusters<\/strong><\/a><strong>, Jorge Bonilla<\/strong>\u2014Bash\u2019s decision to bring Kennedy onto State of the Union was little more than an attempt at \u201csome narrative hygiene\u201d following the alleged fallout from last week\u2019s Fauci hearings, Bonilla wrote yesterday. But his health hero charged into battle undeterred, Bonilla continued, and was soon \u201cstomping all over Bash\u2019s narrative and bringing to the fire Fauci\u2019s role in the establishment of the Covid lockdowns.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bonilla celebrated Kennedy\u2019s appearance as \u201cone of the first times, if not the first, that anyone brings accountability to the Elitist Media for their role in spreading Covid propaganda.\u201d He also insisted Bash learned a lesson: \u201cthat there is a difference between The Science<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/17.0.2\/72x72\/2122.png\" alt=\"\u2122\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em;max-height: 1em\" \/> the media pushed and the actual science the people needed to hear.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_9185792176099109396mcePastedContent\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/newsletters\/reliable-sources-08-03-26-110230?utm_source=cnn_Reliable+Sources&amp;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/newsletters\/reliable-sources-08-03-26-110230?utm_source%3Dcnn_Reliable%2BSources%26utm_medium%3Demail&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1785864758120000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1uV-8Fk_-J3plhx0pLJegz\"><strong>CNN\u00a0Reliable Sources<\/strong><\/a><strong>, Brian Stelter<\/strong>\u2014Stelter himself didn\u2019t devote too much time to the secretary of health and human services, but he did link to a colleague\u2019s take.\u00a0<strong>Aileen Graef<\/strong>\u00a0slammed Kennedy\u2019s appearance as \u201can attempt to rewrite the history of the Covid-19 response\u201d and his decision to also bring back \u201ca string of debunked assertions about vaccines, RSV and measles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_9185792176099109396mcePastedContent\">As Graef and many others have pointed out in the last 24 hours, Kennedy\u2019s dispute with Bash \u201cunderscores a deepening division over public health authority at a critical juncture\u201d and being skeptical of mainstream science is no longer a fringe occupation. Kennedy\u2019s comments are especially irresponsible as \u201cthe US battles its worst measles resurgence in more than three decades \u2014 a crisis experts warn is fueled directly by the type of vaccine misinformation and institutional distrust Kennedy amplified during the broadcast.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_9185792176099109396mcePastedContent\"><a href=\"https:\/\/mailchi.mp\/poynter\/dana-bash-did-her-job-and-rfk-jr-didnt-handle-it-well?e=98fdab938e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/mailchi.mp\/poynter\/dana-bash-did-her-job-and-rfk-jr-didnt-handle-it-well?e%3D98fdab938e&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1785864758120000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3RvVXq_PSG6N_w4OBhAfSJ\"><strong>The Poynter Report<\/strong><\/a><strong>, Tom Jones<\/strong>\u2014Though\u00a0<em>State of the Union<\/em>\u00a0and all the weekend morning political shows are often staging grounds for dispute and debate, what happened between Bash and Kennedy was \u201csomething way beyond your typical Sunday morning exchange,\u201d Jones wrote today. Though Bash valiantly attempted to keep Kennedy on track, redirecting his arguments about individual and state rights back to the actual questions he was asked about future pandemics, for example, the latter was more focused on behaving as \u201ca petulant child instead of a critical leader of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_9185792176099109396mcePastedContent\">Jones also linked to Graef\u2019s work (and that of\u00a0<strong>Katherine Dillinger<\/strong>), which included a \u201clengthy\u201d fact-checking of everything Kennedy had to say.<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_5174368971465723675mcePastedContent\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">TAKEAWAY:<\/span><\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>It could be because midterms are approaching or it could be because it\u2019s Kennedy we\u2019re talking about, but the takes resulting from this <em>State of the Union\u00a0<\/em>appearance fall largely along partisan lines. And that just might end up providing a short-term sugar high for those on the right \u2014 who are celebrating RFK\u2019s bombast today, but may come to rue it in short order. The right-leaning newsletters were riding a wave of momentum after Dr. Fauci took the fifth in front of Congress. But as of today, the discussion around public health in America is no longer centering around Fauci \u2014 it\u2019s centering around RFK. This comes after he made it clear on X he supports \u201cNO amnesty for illegal aliens. These videos have made it to Trump\u2019s Truth Social account, something that isn\u2019t all too shocking given the president\u2019s apparent enjoyment of AI-generated content. But the videos are concerning to the left because two things are unclear: \u201cclarity about the form these videos were taking and where they were coming from.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>California\u2019s Gov.\u00a0<strong>Gavin Newsom<\/strong>\u00a0is an especially popular victim of \u201cthis growing wave of AI-assisted spam.\u201d The videos are \u201ccobbled together by AI and generated at scale with little regard for accuracy,\u201d but that doesn\u2019t seem to offend many viewers. Newsom\u2019s spokesperson noted \u201calgorithms are rewarding lies and bad actors are taking advantage,\u201d something that will just lead to a more \u201cdivided America.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"m_9185792176099109396mcePastedContent\"><strong><span style=\"color: #2596be\">ANALYSIS<\/span><\/strong> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/s.w.org\/images\/core\/emoji\/17.0.2\/72x72\/1f440.png\" alt=\"\ud83d\udc40\" class=\"wp-smiley\" style=\"height: 1em;max-height: 1em\" \/> <a href=\"https:\/\/punchbowl.news\/archive\/8326-am\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/punchbowl.news\/archive\/8326-am\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1785864758121000&amp;usg=AOvVaw0bPqQJsX6sOpeKAcKRZhhN\"><strong>Punchbowl News AM<\/strong><\/a><strong>, Andrew Desiderio and Laura Weiss<\/strong>\u2014<strong>Todd Blanche<\/strong>\u00a0may be confirmed as the newest Attorney General after all, Desiderio and Weiss wrote, after sending out a \u201cformal document\u201d that indicates \u201cthe order creating the controversial $1.8 billion anti-weaponization fund is \u2018rescinded\u2019 with \u2018no force or effect.\u2019\u201d He also sent out a second document that \u201climits of President\u00a0<strong>Donald Trump\u2019s<\/strong>\u00a0tax audit immunity deal,\u201d and both documents appear to quell gripes that were keeping Sen.\u00a0<strong>John Cornyn<\/strong>\u00a0(R-TX) and Sen.<strong>\u00a0Thom Tillis<\/strong>\u00a0(R-NC) from approving his vote. Instead, he\u2019s \u201cbeen hunkered down in LA as he preps for the studio&#8217;s bitter legal battle for Warner Bros\u201d\u2014though he was also spotted recently taking in breakfast at Disneyland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMultiple spies saw the Paramount Skydance CEO grabbing breakfast at the swanky Grand Californian Hotel\u2019s Storytellers Cafe over the weekend,\u201d Mohr reported. For the curious, brunch runs at around $62 per adult.<\/p>\n<p>Ellison and Paramount are currently waiting for the judge to decide when a trial will begin.
