In its opening weekend, the new <a href=\"https:\/\/screencrush.com\/tags\/marvel\/\">Marvel<\/a> blockbuster grossed an estimated $355 million in domestic theaters. That\u2019s second all-time behind only <em>Avengers: Endgame<\/em>, which grossed $357 million in its opening weekend.\u00a0Three million bucks more and it would have been the biggest opening weekend\u00a0<em>ever.<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"single-post-image \">\n<figure class=\"img-tag has-sizer v3 alignnone\">\n<div class=\"theframe \" data-loading=\"lazy\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/townsquare.media\/site\/442\/files\/2026\/06\/attachment-sbnd-16896_r.jpg?w=980&amp;q=75\" alt=\"Sony\" loading=\"lazy\" onload=\"this.parentNode.parentNode.classList.add('frame-loaded');\" onerror=\"this.parentNode.parentNode.classList.add('broken-image');\" fetchpriority=\"low\" width=\"1629\" height=\"1086\"\/><\/div><figcaption>Sony<\/figcaption><span class=\"visually-hidden\">Sony<\/span><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 300;\"><strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/screencrush.com\/spider-man-brand-new-day-review\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ScreenCrush\u2019s\u00a0<em>Spider-Man: Brand New Day\u00a0<\/em>Review<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Brand New Day<\/em>\u00a0also earned $573 million overseas, meaning its opening weekend total overall was $927 million worldwide. That\u2019s the second-biggest total ever as well; again, behind only <em>Avengers: Endgame<\/em>. That film\u2019s\u00a0worldwide opening weekend still ranks as the clear #1 ever, with $1.2 billion.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/screencrush.com\/tags\/spider-man\/\"><em>Spider-Man<\/em>\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0opening is all the more impressive given the fact that the narrative around Marvel and superhero movies in general is that these\u00a0films have passed their peak, are old-fashioned, are not what modern moviegoers are interested in. That may be true in some cases \u2014 the box-office results of titles like\u00a0<em>Thunderbolts*\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Supergirl\u00a0<\/em>were still not great, and horror and sci-fi movies are generally outperforming superhero movies in 2026\u00a0 \u2014 but <em>Brand New Day<\/em>\u2019s massive earnings\u00a0do suggest reports of this genre\u2019s demise may have been as exaggerated as the ones that claimed Doctor Octopus killed Peter Parker back in\u00a0<em>The Amazing Spider-Man\u00a0<\/em>#700.<\/p>\n<p><em>Brand New Day<\/em>\u00a0is the fourth Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland as the Friendly Neighborhood Wall-Crawler. (His previous Marvel film, 2021\u2019s\u00a0<em>Spider-Man: No Way Home<\/em>, grossed $260 million in its opening weekend.) This opening box-office total all but guarantees Marvel and Sony will attempt\u00a0to make at least one\u00a0more Spidey with\u00a0Holland and his cast, including Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds. Given the overall tenor of the critics\u2019 reviews (90 percent on Rotten Tomatoes) and audience scores (an A CinemaScore), many people would want to see it as well.<\/p>\n<div class=\"photogallery-wrapper blog-photogallery \">\n<h2 class=\"photogallery-title\">The Worst Marvel Comics Costumes Ever<\/h2>\n<div class=\"photogallery-description\">\n<p>We would not mind if these Marvel costumes went up, up, and away forever.
