Joe Manchin refused to offer support for any self-described\u00a0socialist candidates\u00a0ahead of the midterm elections on Sunday\u2019s broadcast of CBS\u2019 \u201cFace the Nation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo way,\u201d Manchin said when asked if he would ever support a socialist. \u201cMy God, no.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven if they have some good ideas?\u201d host Margaret Brennan pressed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI support the good ideas,\u201d he said. \u201cBut how could you support some of the crazy stuff they\u2019re for?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHave you seen their platform?\u201d Manchin asked. \u201cThey\u2019re for dismantling everything that we know, whether it be the structure of government, Congress itself, or the Senate they\u00a0want to get rid of, and then they start talking about all the crazy things, no police, no this, no this, no that. Yeah. We want a strong defense, we want a strong border.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut if Democrats can\u2019t say that, and they start lining up with the socialist demands of what you are to be a socialist, energy will be gone,\u201d Manchin added. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019ll be no energy, OK? We have right now a tremendous amount of energy we\u2019re producing, and the world depends more on us than ever before.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Darializa Avila Chevalier, endorsed in her run for Congress by NYC Mayor Mamdani. <span class=\"credit\">Robert Miller for NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Manchin\u2019s daughter, Heather Manchin, who appeared on the show with him, expressed concern that the Democratic Party leadership refuses to tell far-left candidates and socialists \u201cNo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cControl has now completely outweighed character,\u201d she said. \u201cIf you\u2019re more interested in control, and that\u2019s all that matters, your vote count, versus the character of the person and the platform they\u2019re running on, I think we\u2019re living with the consequences of that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fox News Digital\u00a0reached out to the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) for comment but did not immediately receive a response.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Members of the Democratic Socialists of America gather outside of a Trump-owned building on May Day on May 1, 2019, in New York City. <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Manchin and his daughter\u2019s comments came after several\u00a0openly socialist candidates\u00a0ran and won Democratic primary elections throughout the country. <\/p>\n<p>Some DSA-backed politicians such as New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and New York congressional candidate Darializa Avila Chevalier have begun to rise in prominence and popularity within the Democratic Party.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0July Fox News poll\u00a0found that more Democrats had a favorable opinion of socialism (52%) compared to capitalism (41%).
