decided to take her first-ever mountain hike to St. Mary\u2019s Glacier near Idaho Springs, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/animals\/video-moose-swims-near-swimmers-hikers-colorado\/\">KDVR reported. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>While on the scenic trek, a man unexpectedly ran up from behind her and her friends to warn them that a moose was nearby, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<figure move,\u201d Smith told the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy friend Grace was like, \u2018if you hold your thumb up and the thumb covers the whole moose, you\u2019re a good safe distance.\u2019 When I held my thumb up, I was covering about its toe, so it was really close.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>As the tourist and her friends quickly moved away, they saw the antlered mammal strutting into a lake for a dip \u2014 mere feet away from a group of girls sitting on a rock.<\/p>\n<p>Video taken by Smith captured the two girls slowly walking off the rock and into the water to avoid disturbing the enormous moose, which typically can tip the scales at over a whopping 1,000 pounds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo then the moose decides to, like, get in the water and take a dip. Which, we\u2019re on its land so by all means,\u201d Smith said, noting the girls were eventually able to safely move out of the way.<\/p>\n<p>Smith, who is from St. Petersburg, described the shock
