{"id":25734,"date":"2026-08-03T02:06:34","date_gmt":"2026-08-02T21:06:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=25734"},"modified":"2026-08-03T02:06:34","modified_gmt":"2026-08-02T21:06:34","slug":"jim-jordan-goes-nuts-about-alleged-reflecting-pool-vandal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=25734","title":{"rendered":"Jim Jordan Goes Nuts About Alleged Reflecting Pool Vandal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"post-body\">\n<p>Rep. <strong>Jim Jordan<\/strong> (R-OH) went off the rails Sunday when CNN\u2019s <strong>Dana Bash<\/strong> asked if a former Olympian charged with desecrating the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool should be compensated for government \u201cweaponization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During a discussion of Trump\u2019s insistence that a $1.8 billion \u201canti-weaponization fund\u201d be set up, Bash said, \u201cJust kind of looking ahead to who could or should be eligible for the fund, I want to play something that the Interior secretary <strong>Doug Burgum<\/strong> told me about the reflecting pool,\u201d Bash said before playing video of Burgum.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>BURGUM: It didn\u2019t peel off. There was vandalism. There was box box cutters. There have been seven arrests. There were people literally trying to destroy part of the monument.<\/p>\n<p>BASH: You\u2019re\u00a0100% sure that what happened with the liner was vandalism? You can prove it?<\/p>\n<p>BURGUM: Oh, absolutely we can. And as we we drain it, and we\u2019ve got all the photographs.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Bash continued addressing Jordan, saying, \u201cAs you well know, the U.S. Attorney here in D.C., <strong>Jeanine Pirro,<\/strong> said that vandalism <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/media\/news\/jeanine-pirro-drops-lincoln-memorial-vandalism-case-says-damage-was-caused-by-botched-installation\/\">did not damage the pool<\/a>, but it was a hasty and botched contract renovation that did. They dropped their case, a criminal case, that they had against former Olympian <strong>David Hearn.<\/strong> Given what he\u2019s gone through, should he be eligible for money from the anti-weaponization fund?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, that would be up to the board. I mean, if what \u2014\u201d Jordan began before Bash interjected, \u201cBut, what do <em>you<\/em> think?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s up to, I don\u2019t make the decision. It\u2019s up to \u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know, but you have an opinion,\u201d Bash shot back.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I do know is <strong>Peter Strzok<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/07\/26\/peter-strzok-lawsuit-settlement-00171498\">shouldn\u2019t have got $1.2 million<\/a> when he tried to undermine President Trump\u2019s election campaign \u2014\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, you have an opinion on that,\u201d Bash said. \u201cYou have an opinion that he shouldn\u2019t have gotten it. What about\u00a0David Hearn?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, that\u2019ll be up to the board!\u201d Jordan repeated, growing agitated. \u201cI don\u2019t know all the facts, this story just broke, I don\u2019t know all the facts \u2014 why the Justice Department dropped the case, why the Department of Interior said that there was something there. I\u2019d have to look at all that. We\u2019d have to look!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Chairman, one of the facts now, and this is based on what the president\u2019s own U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, who I know you know well, she used to be on Fox, said the ramifications of it was that they were trying to send a man who was innocent to jail, based on lies about vandalism. He was accused of crimes that he did not commit. As chair of the Judiciary Committee, does that bother you?\u201d Bash asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf those are the facts, of course, but I don\u2019t know that those are the facts, we have not seen all that evidence.
