upcoming tour<\/a> after he allegedly sent inappropriate messages to an underage fan.<\/p>\n<p>In a shocking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/ModestMouse\/comments\/1v7b2mg\/simom_doom_dmed_me\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reddit post<\/a>, an anonymous person shared Instagram DMs O\u2019Connor allegedly sent her after she \u201cliked\u201d a few of his posts days before her 17th birthday.<\/p>\n<p>In the first message, the musician sent a picture of people playing the game Simon Says that \u201cliked\u201d the message with an alien head emoji, O\u2019Connor then allegedly sent a photo of a naked African-American man who was sitting with his legs open.<\/p>\n<p>He quickly apologized and the fan wrote that it was \u201call good\u201d because she believed O\u2019Connor had been \u201chacked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the \u201cAn Eraser and a Maze\u201d singer replied that he wasn\u2019t know,\u201d he allegedly penned.<\/p>\n<p>The unnamed fan told O\u2019Connor, 42, to \u201cget a good night of sleep,\u201d to which he replied with a saluting face emoji.<\/p>\n<p>He then allegedly wrote: \u201cBut you did blindside me with a gaggle of likes and then very little intro besides bikini pics so we are both to blame.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After unsending the message, O\u2019Connor allegedly wrote: \u201cI did it again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The fan claimed on Reddit that she has a \u201cvery public\u201d Instagram which includes her age in her bio.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>However, O\u2019Connor allegedly revealed that he wasn\u2019t hacked and had been out partying that night. <span class=\"credit\">Reddit<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>The rockstar claimed the fan \u201cblindsided\u201d him with the \u201cgaggle of \u2018likes&#8217;\u201d and he brought up her bikini photos. <span class=\"credit\">Reddit<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After she received the \u201cweird\u201d messages, she said she reached out to several people \u201cwithin the indie music fandom and nobody with a platform cared.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Connor responded to the allegations with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/ModestMouse\/comments\/1v83b86\/hey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reddit post<\/a> of his own.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHey, Simon here. I would just like to address some of the conversation on this thread that has come to my attention,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirstly, I would like to just state that I unequivocally oppose any sexual behavior towards minors, as a human and a parent it disgusts me,\u201d O\u2019Connor added.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>He deleted that message and allegedly wrote, \u201cI did it again.\u201d <span class=\"credit\">Reddit<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>The fan claimed the messages took place days before she turned 17. <span class=\"credit\">Reddit<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The musician claimed that \u201ca person\u201d has been \u201cmessing\u201d with him, allegedly creating multiple social media accounts and deleting them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter a long night, I picked my phone up to discover that a similar profile had been interacting (\u2018likes\u2019 to be specific) with some of my instagram posts and stories,\u201d he penned. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI assumed that this was the same person I had dealt with before and, with poor judgement, I decided to reach out with a tasteless meme, a sticker that read \u2018Simon calls your bluff,\u2019 and an attempt to indicate that I recognized the \u2018barrage of likes\u2019 and similar photo content from the previous profiles\u2026.
