While salaries often become the focus whenever savings are discussed, a Bengaluru content creator believes the answer may lie elsewhere. In a video that is now getting attention on Instagram, he spoke about a few everyday spending habits that people rarely think twice about but which, according to him, can quietly take a big bite out of their monthly income.Akshay CN, who runs the Instagram page @bangalore_viral, shared a list of five expenses that he believes slowly reduce people’s ability to save. According to him, these include ordering food online regularly, relying on cabs for daily travel, shopping for things that are not really needed, paying for subscriptions that are barely used, and making unplanned weekend outings.

‘The problem isn’t your salary’

Explaining the idea behind the video, Akshay wrote, “Five things silently draining your salary every month in Bengaluru. The problem isn’t your salary; it’s the money you don’t even notice spending.”He also shared why he feels income alone does not decide whether someone can save.“Most people think, ‘I’ll start saving when my salary increases.’ But after speaking to so many people in Bengaluru, I noticed something surprising. Some people earning ₹40,000 have savings, while others earning ₹1 lakh or more are still waiting for the month to end. The difference isn’t always income. A ₹300 cab ride doesn’t hurt, but taking it 20 times a month does. Sales don’t save money; buying only what you need does.”He also highlighted recurring subscription payments and frequent social spending.“Subscriptions feel small until you realize you’re paying for apps you don’t even open. Weekend plans aren’t the problem; going out every weekend without a budget is.”

The question he asks before every purchase

Akshay also shared one simple habit that he says has changed the way he spends money.“One habit completely changed the way I look at money. Before buying anything, I ask myself one simple question: ‘Will I still be happy that I bought this 30 days from now?’ That one question has helped me save more money than any budgeting app.”

Internet users react

The video received several responses from social media users. One person commented, “What’s new about this?
