{"id":25323,"date":"2026-08-02T16:29:32","date_gmt":"2026-08-02T11:29:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=25323"},"modified":"2026-08-02T16:29:32","modified_gmt":"2026-08-02T11:29:32","slug":"iranian-revolution-can-happen-any-day-now-as-protest-leaders-try-to-arm-sources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=25323","title":{"rendered":"Iranian revolution can happen &#8216;any day now&#8217; as protest leaders try to arm: sources"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<br \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content%2Fuploads%2Fsites%2F2%2F2026%2F07%2F136027665.jpg?quality%3D90%26strip%3Dall\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The streets of Iran are near a breaking point over public executions, economic collapse and a war that\u2019s been raging on for more than five months, anti-regime figures in Tehran told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA revolution can happen any day now \u2014 people want revenge,\u201d a protest leader said, referring to the regime\u2019s brutal January crackdown that President Trump said <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/25\/world-news\/more-than-36500-killed-in-deadliest-two-days-in-iran-protest-crackdown-report\/\">killed 52,000 people<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An independent journalist active in the Iranian underground said that preparations are already being made for the next uprising, and that activists from all walks of life are determined to make a final, decisive blow against the regime.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Another uprising could happen in Iran any day now, activists told The Post.  <span class=\"credit\">Obtained by the NY Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Both Iranians spoke with The Post through a translator by cellphone after signing on to a VPN.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re studying the protests from January, determining what tactics worked and which didn\u2019t; we\u2019re analyzing maps to determine the safest and most dangerous areas to congregate,\u201d the journalist said. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>He claimed that <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/01\/22\/world-news\/horrific-new-photos-show-brutality-of-irans-protest-crackdown\/\">the Iranian resistance<\/a> has hidden crude weaponry and tools throughout the country \u2014 bricks, rocks, wooden clubs, chairs and tires used to block roads \u2014 waiting for the day that people once again take to the streets.<\/p>\n<p>Small groups are working clandestinely to procure firearms to distribute to demonstrators \u2014 utilizing guns stored in certain private homes and smuggled from abroad, the protest leader claimed. They did not specify who would be providing these weapons.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we went out in January, we were like lambs to the slaughter; the Basij forces were using firepower that you couldn\u2019t believe; the streets were like a graveyard, corpses everywhere, the streets ran red with blood,\u201d she said, unable to contain her rage and grief.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image Post<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She warned regime forces: \u201cNext time we come out, we\u2019re coming out armed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The trauma from the January protests where thousands of unarmed demonstrators were mowed down by the regime is the primary reason a popular uprising hasn\u2019t sprung up yet, both Iranians claimed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone has lost somebody,\u201d the President Trump.  <span class=\"credit\">UGC\/AFP via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Also keeping a revolution at bay are foreign mercenaries the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has brought in from countries like Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey pull people out of their cars when they\u2019re driving and search them and search their vehicles,\u201d the independent journalist said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey gallivant around our country as if they\u2019re the locals and we\u2019re the foreign invaders, instead of defending our skies, the regime has decided to go to war with its own citizens,\u201d the protest leader said.<\/p>\n<p>The journalist also claimed that the regime has resorted to arming teenagers \u2014 some as young as 13 or 14 \u2014 to patrol neighborhoods.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>The activists said that the next time people take to the streets, they will be armed.  <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThis is a tragedy waiting to happen,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>The war has also created uncertainty in the region, with activists unsure of how far the US will ultimately go in its strikes against the regime and its assets \u2014 though President Trump on Saturday night said he halted the latest planned attack as peace talks appeared to be heading in the right direction.<\/p>\n<p>Cracks in the tyrannical regime are already starting to show, with up to 2,000 demonstrators coming out in Isfahan to protest <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/28\/world-news\/dishonorable-crowd-yells-as-iran-holds-public-hanging-for-two-protesters-at-site-of-anti-regime-rally\/\">the public hangings<\/a> of anti-regime protesters Abolfazl Sepahi Badjani and Amir Hossein Safari Hosseinabadi, according to the journalist.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Runaway inflation is leading to widespread unrest.  <span class=\"credit\">Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Sky-high inflation, as well as electricity and water shortages in the country\u2019s southern regions, are also fueling public anger at the mullahs, the journalist said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven middle-class people are skipping one or two meals a day, there\u2019s food on the shelves at grocery stores, but nobody can afford it,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>Neither Iranians could say exactly when a widespread uprising would come, but they said that if the executions and repression continue and the economy doesn\u2019t improve, any single incident could be the spark.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know the stakes, either the regime goes, or we do,\u201d the
