Their chemistry is still undeniable, while their trademark <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2025\/11\/14\/five-insist-didnt-fall-out-ahead-mammoth-25th-anniversary-comeback-tour-24709192\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mischievous streak makes an appearance within seconds.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2018Sorry, Jay\u2019s got a fan, and he\u2019s fanning up to my balls right now!\u2019 Ritchie laughs down the phone. \u2018I tell you, it\u2019s a good thing there was no <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/tiktok\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\">TikTok<\/a> back in our day, because I can guarantee one of our nutsacks would have made an appearance.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019d just like to say my nutsack would have stayed firmly in my trousers, thank you very much,\u2019 Sean adds, prompting another round of laughter.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s no surprise the band are in such high spirits. Having kicked off their reunion tour in October 2025,\u00a0Five\u00a0have spent the past several months performing to sold-out arenas across the UK, including London\u2019s <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/o2-arena\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\">O2<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"738\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/SEI306683944-2289.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=646\" class=\"article-image wp-image-29243778\" alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Metro caught up with Five ahead of their Brighton Pride on the Park appearance (Picture: Supplied)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>It\u2019s not the first time the group have tried to reunite. Following their split in 2001 amid claims of burnout and bullying,\u00a0Five\u00a0returned to the stage for The Big Reunion in 2013 without Jay,\u00a050. Abz, 47, then departed the following year, leaving Scott, 46, Ritchie, 46, and Sean, 45, to continue as a trio.<\/p>\n<p>So why has it finally worked as a\u00a0fivesome this time round?<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>We\u2019ve grown heads on our shoulders now<\/p>\n<p><svg><title>Quote<\/title>\n<use xlink:href=\"#common-quote\" href=\"#common-quote\"\/><\/svg><svg><title>Quote<\/title>\n<use xlink:href=\"#common-quote\" href=\"#common-quote\"\/><\/svg>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2018It just feels like the right time for us,\u2019 Abz says. \u2018We\u2019ve grown heads on our shoulders now, so we appreciate it all a lot more.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We\u2019re older, wiser and more mature,\u2019 Ritchie adds. \u2018We\u2019re a team now, and we work through everything together. He still video calls us just to check in and make sure we\u2019re taking time to appreciate it all. It\u2019s amazing having someone like Robbie in your corner. Robbie experienced all of this before we did, probably on an even more extreme level. To have someone who\u2019s genuinely lived it and can reassure you, that meant a lot.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Behind the chart success and sold-out arenas, life in a 90s boy band came with an extraordinary amount of pressure, made all the more intense by just how young some of the members could be. In\u00a0Five\u2019s case, Sean was only 16 when he signed with the band, while the oldest member, J, was just 21.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Robbie experienced all of this before we did, probably on an even more extreme level<\/p>\n<p><svg><title>Quote<\/title>\n<use xlink:href=\"#common-quote\" href=\"#common-quote\"\/><\/svg><svg><title>Quote<\/title>\n<use xlink:href=\"#common-quote\" href=\"#common-quote\"\/><\/svg>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019ve got an 11-year-old daughter, and she\u2019s showing signs of being a performer,\u2019 Ritchie tells us. <\/p>\n<p>\u2018But in my heart, having lived this experience, I wouldn\u2019t want her to do it till she\u2019s at least in her mid-twenties. And there\u2019s a real value to someone older. They\u2019ve got more to say, more life experience. I\u2019m not saying there isn\u2019t a place for young performers, but I\u2019m glad to see older stars proving just how good they still are on stage too.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Five\u00a0aren\u2019t the only boy band fuelling the nostalgia boom, with Take That reuniting this summer for a revival of their Circus Live tour. But with lead singer Gary,\u00a055, admitting his age means he can no longer perform to the standard he\u2019d want,\u00a0Five\u00a0tell Metro they\u2019re more than happy to pick up any slack.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We bumped into the Take That guys while we were rehearsing for our show, and Gary told us the tour had really taken a physical toll,\u2019 Sean says. \u2018We were like, \u201cOh really, Gaz? We\u2019re at the right age where we\u2019re not too old, and the fans aren\u2019t too old, and we\u2019ve all still got that bit of youthful energy in us.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>While other 90s boybands, such as Westlife, were carefully marketed with a more wholesome image,\u00a0Five\u00a0tell Metro their \u2018bad boy\u2019 reputation actually worked to their advantage at times, giving them a little more freedom.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>We\u2019re a little bit madder than your average band<\/p>\n<p><svg><title>Quote<\/title>\n<use xlink:href=\"#common-quote\" href=\"#common-quote\"\/><\/svg><svg><title>Quote<\/title>\n<use xlink:href=\"#common-quote\" href=\"#common-quote\"\/><\/svg>\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>\u2018I think we were just normal lads,\u2019 Ritchie says. \u2018The thing is, Westlife were normal lads too. But they were sort of cajoled into pretending they weren\u2019t. They used to say in interviews that they were virgins, that they didn\u2019t have girlfriends, that they didn\u2019t drink. There was a lot of pressure on them. But our management were happy for us to just be ourselves.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>While the bands consider each other mates now,\u00a0Five\u00a0admit there was a little bit of a feud when Westlife entered the music scene just a year after their debut and quickly became a success.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The first few months after they came out, we had a little issue,\u2019 Ritchie admits. \u2018It was nothing really and once we actually spent time together, we got over it very quickly.\u2019<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img width=\"646\" height=\"419\" src=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/SEI_229315384-5b34.jpg?quality=90&amp;strip=all&amp;w=646\" class=\"article-image wp-image-24710527\" alt=\"Boy band Five pose together at an airport in Sweden, 2001. (Photo by Martyn Goodacre\/Getty Images)\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\"\/>\t<\/div><figcaption>Five officially split in September 2001 after Scott stepped back (Picture: Martyn Goodacre\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Five\u2019s wild nights out also became the stuff of legend too during their heyday, including one surreal evening with <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/oasis\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\">Oasis<\/a> frontman <a data-ico=\"hyperlink-article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/liam-gallagher\/\" data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\">Liam Gallagher<\/a> in 2001 that somehow ended with everyone playing the children\u2019s game Bop It!<\/p>\n<p>\u2018That was a funny night,\u2019 J laughs. \u2018It was in Brazil. We met Liam and got invited up to his room. He then asked us if we fancied a game of Bop It! Not the most rock and roll.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018He was rubbish at it too!\u2019 Scott chips in.<\/p>\n<p>With Britain\u2019s self-proclaimed bad boys of pop reminiscing about one of indie\u2019s most infamous frontmen, one question quickly springs to mind. If\u00a0Five\u00a0and Oasis ever came to blows, who would win?<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Well, there\u2019s\u00a0five\u00a0of us and only two of them,\u2019 Scott says jokingly. \u2018We\u2019d smash \u2019em up!\u2019<\/p>\n<p>As our call draws to a close,\u00a0Five\u00a0are about to be whisked back into rehearsals with a packed schedule of summer festivals ahead of them.
