Heyman.<\/p>\n<p>Outfielder Zyhir Hope, right-handed pitcher River Ryan and right-handed pitcher Brady Smith are heading back to Detroit, according to ESPN.<\/p>\n<p>Now, they will add yet another superstar talent to their world-beating roster.<\/p>\n<p>Now, an already probable World Series in 2026 feels that much more inevitable.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>The Dodgers, of course, didn\u2019t <em>need <\/em>Skubal before MLB\u2019s Monday trade deadline, not after expressing confidence in recent weeks that their talented starting rotation \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/29\/sports\/dodgers-shohei-ohtani-reveals-bicep-is-also-not-100\/\">which has been without Shohei Ohtani <\/a>(knee), Blake Snell (elbow) and Tyler Glasnow (back) lately \u2014 would be healthy come the stretch run of the season.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the Dodgers don\u2019t sit out sweepstakes for \u201cneedle-moving\u201d players.<\/p>\n<p>And for this year\u2019s deadline, no one moved the needle for their <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/27\/sports\/dodgers-post-podcast-how-hard-will-dodgers-pursue-tarik-skubal\/\">championship odds more than Skubal<\/a> \u2014who will be a free agent after this Tigers\u2019 season went off the rails quickly, with the club going 22-38 through the end of May. Skubal was out for much of that stretch, after undergoing a procedure to have a loose body removed from his elbow on May 6.<\/p>\n<p>A brief uptick in form \u2014 the Tigers went 28-16 from June 1 to July 24 \u2014 was followed by another poorly timed skid this week, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/29\/sports\/tarik-skubal-gets-ovation-for-1000th-strikeout-in-possible-final-tigers-start\/\">cementing the Tigers\u2019 status<\/a> as a seller ahead of Monday\u2019s trade deadline.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, Skubal became the top target on the market, thanks to another strong season in which he is 7-5 with a 2.79 ERA this year (including a 2.87 mark since coming off the injured list).<\/p>\n<p>And the Dodgers, as the rest of the industry suspected all along, were ready to pounce; their proclamations about having no \u201cacute needs\u201d at this deadline be damned.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><script async src=\"\/\/www.tiktok.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<br \/><script async=\"async\" data-cfasync=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/pl30214220.effectivecpmnetwork.com\/9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<div id=\"container-9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\"><\/div>\r\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Dodgers did it again.
