coolly shoved his hands inside <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/30\/science\/california-great-white-shark-expert-reveals-summer-beach-risks-as-sightings-surge\/\">the mouth of an 8-foot shark<\/a> after reeling it onto a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/16\/us-news\/slippery-suspect-escapes-into-ocean-while-fleeing-police-during-wild-la-chase\/\">Los Angeles-area beach<\/a>, then hauled the toothy predator back into the Pacific as horrified onlookers watched the wild scene unfold.<\/p>\n<p>The hair-raising encounter happened at Sunset Point Beach, where the unnamed angler landed what witnesses believe was a juvenile shark, possibly a great white, measuring roughly 8 feet long.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter into the surf.<\/p>\n<p>According to eyewitnesses, \u201cthe shark swam off into Santa Monica Bay and was not seen again,\u201d suggesting the young killer survived the encounter.<\/p>\n<aside Shark Lab at California State University, Long Beach told The Los Angeles Times.<\/p>\n<p>Lowe has attributed the spike in juvenile great white sightings to unusually warm El Ni\u00f1o waters, which create an ideal nursery habitat close to shore.<\/p>\n<p>The young sharks can feast on stingrays and other prey while staying out of reach of larger predators.<\/p>\n<p>The beachside rescue also
