The record previously belonged to 2019\u2019s \u201cAvengers: Endgame, which earned $157 million on its first day in theaters. Sony has the film reaching $325 million by Sunday, but rival estimates have the film climbing as high as $358 million. That figure would give \u201cBrand New Day\u201d the biggest North American debut of all time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cEndgame\u201d holds the title of best North American opening ever with $357 million. The silver metal slot belongs to 2021\u2019s \u201cSpider-Man: No Way Home\u201d with $260 million. 2018\u2019s \u201cAvengers: Infinity War\u201d had the third best with $257 million, followed by 2015\u2019s \u201cStar Wars: The Force Awakens\u201d with $247 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/tom-holland\/\" id=\"auto-tag_tom-holland\" data-tag=\"tom-holland\">Tom Holland<\/a>\u2018s previous \u201cSpider-Man\u201d film, \u201cNo Way Home,\u201d Peter Parker had Doctor Strange erase everyone\u2019s memory so no one on Earth knows who he is. In \u201cBrand New Day,\u201d Peter must learn to fight on without any of his closest allies, including his girlfriend MJ (Zendaya) and his best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon). Cast members for \u201cBrand New Day\u201d include Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Mark Ruffalo, Liza Col\u00f3n-Zayas and Tramell Tillman.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSecond place on Friday went to \u201cThe Odyssey,\u201d which made $14.5 million as it entered its third weekend in North American theaters. By Sunday, the ancient Greek epic should add $51 million (a 43% drop from last week\u2019s earnings) and bring its domestic total to $395 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cToy Story 5\u201d took third on Friday with $1.8 million domestically. The animated sequel is targeting an estimated $6.2 million by Sunday, which would push its North American haul to $461 million through four weekends of release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tRounding out the Friday top five were \u201cMinions &amp; Monsters\u201d and \u201cMoana.\u201d \u201cMinions &amp; Monsters\u201d landed in fourth, adding $1.66 million on Friday. Universal has the film making $5.6 million by Sunday. That would put its domestic earnings at $168 million through 5 weekends in theaters. Finally, \u201cMoana\u201d landed at No. 5 with $1.6 million domestically on Friday.
