{"id":24487,"date":"2026-08-01T20:03:05","date_gmt":"2026-08-01T15:03:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=24487"},"modified":"2026-08-01T20:03:05","modified_gmt":"2026-08-01T15:03:05","slug":"abby-phillip-shuts-down-gop-strategist-on-trump-wealth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=24487","title":{"rendered":"Abby Phillip Shuts Down GOP Strategist On Trump Wealth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"post-body\">\n<p>CNN\u2019s <strong>Abby Phillip<\/strong> shut down a GOP strategist who claimed President <strong>Donald Trump\u2019s<\/strong> children were being subjected to a \u201cdouble standard\u201d in a debate over the family\u2019s money making efforts during Trump\u2019s second term.<\/p>\n<p>The conversation on Friday\u2019s <em>NewsNight with Abby Phillip<\/em> initially centered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/media\/tv\/cnn-data-guru-breaks-down-trumps-economic-polling-is-absolutely-devastating\/\">on the economic pinch<\/a> being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/media\/news\/bill-oreilly-slams-struggling-americans-who-are-yowling-about-high-prices\/\">felt by many Americans<\/a>, while Trump has raked in<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/media\/news\/trump-making-bank-off-ballooning-mar-a-lago-membership-fee-cnn-reports\/\"> big bucks off cryptocurrency and other ventures.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Donald Trump Jr.<\/strong> and <strong>Eric Trump<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/media\/news\/ny-times-bombshell-details-how-trumps-sons-stand-to-gain-from-1-6b-kazakhstan-mining-deal\/\">have come under scrutiny<\/a> after being financially linked to a project in Kazakhstan while they\u2019re dad\u2019s administration sought a strategic $1.6 billion mining agreement with the Central Asian.<\/p>\n<p>Republican strategist <strong>Tim Parrish<\/strong> tried to defend the Trump children\u2019s business ventures after Phillip noted the president \u201cmay not care that people don\u2019t like they see him <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/press\/release-the-trump-family-has-pocketed-more-than-1-8-billion-in-cash-and-gifts-since-2024-reelection-new-live-tracker-shows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">getting richer while in office:<\/a>\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>TIM PARRISH:Yeah. When did the president say he didn\u2019t care about \u2014<\/p>\n<p>ABBY PHILLIP: Well, he said in a <em>New York Times<\/em> \u2014 that\u2019s not what I said. I said, he doesn\u2019t care that there\u2019s a perception that he\u2019s enriching himself while in office. He said so explicitly. There was a New York Times interview in which they asked him a allowing his family to pursue these deals. He said, well, I realized that people really care, so I\u2019ve let them do it.<\/p>\n<p>PARRISH: Right I don\u2019t think I think you\u2019re probably mischaracterizing that the president saying he didn\u2019t care about the perception of the American people, in that regard \u2014<\/p>\n<p>PHILLIP: So why\u2019s he doing it?<\/p>\n<p>PARRISH: I would say this and we\u2019ve addressed this time and time again with the president and his children and families. His children are adults that are business people that can go and do their own ventures.<\/p>\n<p>[CROSSTALK]<\/p>\n<p>PARRISH: So why I don\u2019t understand why every time one of the president\u2019s children goes and does something in a business venture we act like it\u2019s the end of the world. It\u2019s not.<\/p>\n<p>PHILLIP: The problem, Tim, is that they\u2019re interacting with the government. They\u2019re getting they\u2019re engaging in before the government, getting government contracts for their investments. It\u2019s not just, oh, they\u2019re out doing business deals on random things. They\u2019re doing business deals that have a direct relationship with the United States government, which is run by their father. That\u2019s an obvious problem.<\/p>\n<p>PARRISH: The double standard in this story that it\u2019s atrocious how this double standard is being applied. First of all, just because, again I\u2019m going to stay on the point that the president\u2019s children can go run successful businesses. And no one they shouldn\u2019t be held to account because they\u2019re running a business because their father is the president of United States.
