{"id":24127,"date":"2026-08-01T10:56:28","date_gmt":"2026-08-01T05:56:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=24127"},"modified":"2026-08-01T10:56:28","modified_gmt":"2026-08-01T05:56:28","slug":"john-fetterman-predicts-trump-ag-nominee-goes-down-in-flames","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usnews-14267fa.ingress-comporellon.ewp.live\/?p=24127","title":{"rendered":"John Fetterman Predicts Trump AG Nominee Goes Down In Flames"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script>\r\n  atOptions = {\r\n    'key' : '644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6',\r\n    'format' : 'iframe',\r\n    'height' : 90,\r\n    'width' : 728,\r\n    'params' : {}\r\n  };\r\n<\/script>\r\n<script src=\"https:\/\/www.highperformanceformat.com\/644b717812d811d6a1c1fc5b6ccd6fa6\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"post-body\">\n<p>Sen. <strong>John Fetterman<\/strong> (D-PA) predicted on Friday\u2019s episode of <em>The Arena With Kasie Hunt<\/em> that the confirmation hearing for President <strong>Donald Trump\u2019s<\/strong> attorney general pick will go down in flames.<\/p>\n<p>Hunt asked about the confirmation hearing for acting AG <strong>Todd Blanche<\/strong>, as lame-duck Senate Republicans have drawn Trump\u2019s ire over their refusal to confirm unless they get written confirmation that Trump\u2019s $1.8 billion \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2026\/07\/31\/trump-blanche-doj-anti-weaponization-fund-dead\">anti-weaponization\u201d fund<\/a> is completely dead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you look at the landscape, are there more Republicans than meet the eye who are opposed to the Blanche nomination over these issues that <strong>[John] Cornyn<\/strong> and <strong>[Thom] Tillis<\/strong> have raised?\u201d Hunt asked. \u201cAnd is that number potentially five senators or more like 15?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a hard no on Blanche, and I mean, I haven\u2019t encountered a single\u2026Republican that\u2019s like, \u2018Oh, I love that $1.8 billion slush fund,\u2019 or whatever you want to refer to it at all. It doesn\u2019t make any sense. I mean, it\u2019s unconstitutional, honestly, from what it seems. And I don\u2019t see him being confirmed,\u201d Fetterman said, continuing:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>And if anything, I think he\u2019s going to serve as \u201cacting,\u201d or whatever the term, you know, as long as statutorily he\u2019s able to do that, \u2019cause I don\u2019t see him being confirmed, because there just aren\u2019t any votes. I mean, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/media\/news\/trump-explodes-at-john-cornyn-over-todd-blanche-stand-off-never-had-a-problem-before-primary-snub\/\">incinerated the careers of several Republicans<\/a>, Cornyn, <strong>[Bill] Cassidy<\/strong> and, well, Tillis, too. So, that\u2019s three right there in play. And Senator McConnell, of course, is ill. So, I mean, the math\u2019s just not there, and there aren\u2019t any Democrats certainly that are going to support this.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cAnd do you think that there are more Republicans beyond the ones that you just named that also don\u2019t want to vote yes on Todd Blanche, just aren\u2019t willing to say that in public?\u201d Hunt asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat I don\u2019t know, but, because I think they all realize that the math really aren\u2019t there now,\u201d Fetterman said. \u201cAnd as long \u2014 I truly don\u2019t know how long he can serve there. You know, \u2018acting\u2019 right now, but I think effectively, he, right now, and he is acting. So is it really much difference? But I really don\u2019t see him being confirmed, at least certainly through the end of the year, honestly.
