The outlet also claims that Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav declined to approve the proposed deal because he believed it was \u201ctoo generous.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tThe <em>Times<\/em> went on to report that a Warner Bros. spokesperson disputed that characterization, saying talent representatives declined an offer made in May and have not yet submitted a counteroffer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cWe have a rights deal with Mattel in place and have made a series of big offers to try and finalize deals to make the next <em>Barbie<\/em> film,\u201d studio co-chairs Pam Abdy and Michael De Luca said in a statement. \u201cUnfortunately, we have been unable to reach an agreement thus far.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em> reached out to Warner Bros. for comment, and they had nothing further to add.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tGerwig and her <em>Barbie <\/em>co-writer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/noah-baumbach\/\" id=\"auto-tag_noah-baumbach_1\" data-tag=\"noah-baumbach\">Noah Baumbach<\/a> have had an idea for <em>Barbie 2<\/em> for a couple of years. <a data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/barbie-sequel-status-greta-grewig-noah-baumbach-warner-bros-1236083434\/\" data-type=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-news\/barbie-sequel-status-greta-grewig-noah-baumbach-warner-bros-1236083434\/\"><em>THR<\/em> first reported in 2024<\/a> that the couple was in the \u201cearly stages\u201d of developing a story for the sequel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<em>Barbie<\/em> was a massive hit with audiences and critics, grossing $1.5 billion worldwide and earning eight Oscar nominations, winning one for best original song (\u201cWhat Was I Made For?\u201d by Billie Eilish and Finneas O\u2019Connell). Upon its release in July 2023, the film also became a cultural phenomenon thanks to its marketing campaign, signature pink aesthetic and simultaneous release with Christopher Nolan\u2019s <em>Oppenheimer<\/em>, dubbing the name, \u201cBarbenheimer.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<script async=\"async\" data-cfasync=\"false\" src=\"https:\/\/pl30214220.effectivecpmnetwork.com\/9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\/invoke.js\"><\/script>\r\n<div id=\"container-9ab3d4df8a7e1a6171e16ddbf732cc19\"><\/div>\r\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Barbie sequel has hit a roadblock on its way back to Barbieland.
