O\u2019Connor subsequently apologized, claiming he had mistook the fan for a troll with a history of harassing him. Now, Modest Mouse has officially announced that the guitarist will not be performing with the band for the remainder of their <a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/01\/modest-mouse-2026-tour-dates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">scheduled tour dates<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSimon O\u2019Connor will not be joining us on the upcoming tour,\u201d the band <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DbdsCbOhEw4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">posted on Instagram<\/a>. \u201cThe good news is that Seth Jabour of Les Savy Fav will be jumping in to play guitar. We look forward to being out there with you all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The claims first surfaced when the fan took to r\/ModestMouse on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/ModestMouse\/comments\/1vb3ame\/community_post_regarding_simons_instagram_dms\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Reddit<\/a> to detail the interaction. She then shared screenshots that show O\u2019Connor beginning the exchange by direct-messaging her a sticker and sending an explicit meme before deleting the latter and apologizing. The fan replied by saying she had assumed he\u2019d been hacked, to which O\u2019Connor responded, \u201cWish I was hacked just had a party night and looking at everything with one eye ya know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Related Video<\/p>\n<p>A few messages later, he continued, \u201cBut you did blindside me with a gaggle of likes and then very little intro besides bikini pics so we are both to blame.\u201d He then seemingly deleted that message, following up with, \u201cI did it again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In her post, the fan explained that she was 16 at the time and that her birthday was in her bio. She wrote that O\u2019Connor had viewed a story with a countdown to her 17th birthday, as well, posting additional screenshots to back her claims.<\/p>\n<p>After the messages came to light, O\u2019Connor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/ModestMouse\/comments\/1v83b86\/hey\/?share_id=uk0IUvrxPdfybhW8a4weC&amp;utm_content=2&amp;utm_medium=ios_app&amp;utm_name=ioscss&amp;utm_source=share&amp;utm_term=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">issued<\/a> an apology. He claims he had mistakenly believed the fan was a troll who had previously made burner accounts to provoke O\u2019Connor. \u201cAfter a few minutes, I realized that I had made a mistake and this was not the person who I had dealt with before,\u201d he continued. \u201cI unsent the messages and immediately ceased communication. I\u2019m genuinely sorry to the person who received those messages. They didn\u2019t deserve to be put in that position, and I\u2019m sorry for the stress and attention this has brought them. I know some people will choose not to believe me, and I understand that. I can\u2019t change what\u2019s happened. All I can do is tell the truth, take responsibility for my mistake, and apologize.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Connor has played guitar for Modest Mouse since 2021. He has also served as the touring bassist for MGMT.<\/p>\n<p>Modest Mouse will now move on with their tour, which supports their new album\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/consequence.net\/2026\/06\/modest-mouse-release-new-album-an-eraser-and-a-maze\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><em>An Eraser and a Maze<\/em><\/a>, without O\u2019Connor.
