Hair doesn\u2019t produce DNA like touch DNA or bodily fluids,\u201d Nanos told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/nancy-guthrie-fbi-hair-rcna590152\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC News<\/a> on Thursday, July 30.<\/p>\n<p>The sheriff added to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/nancy-guthrie-update-dna-couldnt-profiled-crime-scene-hair-sample-sheriff-says\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News<\/a>, \u201cYes, there was a hair. We had it and thought, \u2018OK, well, we\u2019ll do the DNA first,\u2019 right? The Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department confirmed the news on February 1, 2026, sharing a missing person report via X. Nancy was described as a \u201cvulnerable adult\u201d who was last seen \u201cat her residence\u201d within Arizona\u2019s Catalina Foothills area on the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cBut does that mean the hair isn\u2019t that of the suspect? We won\u2019t know that \u2019til we have the suspect\u2019s hair. You don\u2019t just destroy it,\u201d he told Fox News. \u201cThere\u2019s other things that hair may prove valuable for, but right now, it was just about, \u2018Is there any DNA there?\u2019 And the answer was no. That was just a matter of weeks ago.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a brief statement to NBC News, the FBI Phoenix field office confirmed that \u201call hair had been resolved, and it does not point to a suspect\u201d in Guthrie\u2019s disappearance.<\/p>\n<p>The news comes nearly six months after Guthrie, 84, was reported missing from her home outside of Tucson, Arizona, on February 1. Police are investigating the case as a kidnapping.
