So it&#8217;s nice to have that, to tap into a large workforce as they transition out of the military and into the next career field.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">Under the initiative, qualified veterans with heavy-vehicle experience gained during military service can apply to <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_politics_article_main-content_article-body_6_3410105\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/trump-promotes-freedom-haulers-initiative-fast-track-military-veterans-trucking-jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">waive the CDL road-skills test<\/a>, allowing them to avoid duplicating training they received in the military.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">Certain veterans in participating states \u2014 34 of them so far \u2014 may also qualify for a <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_politics_article_main-content_article-body_6_3410106\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/trump-taps-veterans-fix-illegal-alien-trucking-problem-plaguing-us-roadways\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">waiver of the written knowledge test<\/a>. Think of that, 42%,&#8221; Trump said at the event. &#8220;And that number, they say, is their very minimal number, even as they drive double the number of miles of non-veteran drivers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">Jacques said the <a data-omtr-intcmp=\"fnc_politics_article_main-content_article-body_6_3410108\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/auto\/style\/trucks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">trucking industry<\/a> is always in need of new drivers, and discussed the important role that truckers play in the everyday lives of Americans.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">&#8220;If you take a look at the trucking industry, the behind the scenes, that&#8217;s what gets the commodities where they&#8217;re at,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p data-layout-index=\"5\">He also noted that during COVID-19, when non-essential workers were furloughed and much of America worked from home, truckers didn&#8217;t have that option.
