Do not proceed unless you\u2019ve watched \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The rumors were true: Sadie Sink is the new Jean Grey.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cStranger Things\u201d actress plays the telepathic and telekinetic Marvel superhero in <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/28\/entertainment\/spider-man-brand-new-day-review-marvels-only-good-series-is-back-after-5-years\/\">\u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day,\u201d <\/a>which was released in theaters Friday. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Sadie Sink\u2019s secret character in \u201cSpider-Man: Brand New Day\u201d was revealed. <span class=\"credit\">Xavier Collin\/Image Press Agency \/ SplashNews.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Sink (seen above at the film\u2019s Los Angeles premiere on July 27) plays Jean Grey. <span class=\"credit\">Xavier Collin\/Image Press Agency \/ SplashNews.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>In \u201cBrand New Day,\u201d Peter (Tom Holland) is plagued by a mysterious new foe who can hop into the brain of any person within 33 feet and completely inhabit their mind.<\/p>\n<p>Midway through the movie, that telepath is revealed to be Jean Grey, a k a Dark Phoenix from \u201cX-Men,\u201d played by Sink.<\/p>\n<p>She\u2019s not evil at all, it turns out, but has been wronged by the Department of Damage Control, which wants to understand and replicate the mind-control powers of her and her sister, Sara<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Sink stars in the film alongside Tom Holland (seen above) and Zendaya. <span class=\"credit\">\u00a9Sony Pictures\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><figcaption>Sink (pictured here) dodged questions about her secret character during the film\u2019s press tour. <span class=\"credit\">Xavier Collin\/Image Press Agency \/ SplashNews.com<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Sink\u2019s Jean Grey is the first \u201cX-Men\u201d character to be properly introduced into the main Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline.<\/p>\n<p>In the 20th Century Fox \u201cX-Men\u201d movies, which are set in a different universe than the MCU films, Famke Janssen played the adult version of Jean, while <a href=\"https:\/\/pagesix.com\/2026\/01\/05\/celebrity-news\/sophie-turner-makes-rare-dating-confession-after-chris-martin-romance-rumors\/\">Sophie Turner <\/a>played the younger version of the character in the prequels.<\/p>\n<p>Janssen starred in \u201cX-Men\u201d (2000), \u201cX2: X-Men United\u201d (2003) and \u201cX-Men: The Last Stand\u201d (2006). I am?\u2019\u201d she said on the late-night show in January.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd sure enough, two days later, they asked me to do it.
