He was elevated to interim manager on April 28 after Rob Thomson was fired.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"single__inline-module aligncenter wp-block-nypost-editor-primary-tag\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Philadelphia was 9-19 this season under Thomson, but has gone 43-22 under Mattingly \u2014 the second-best mark in the majors since he took over.<\/p>\n<p>The Phillies were 10 \u00b9\/\u2082  games behind Atlanta in the NL East on May 22, but are just three back of the Braves as well as tied with Miami for the NL\u2019s second wild-card spot.<\/p>\n<p>Preston Mattingly \u2014 one of Don Mattingly\u2019s four sons \u2014 is the Phillies\u2019 general manager.
